Building Success with Data Quality and Master Data Management

Mergers and acquisitions, better data integration across applications, and burgeoning data volumes are just a few reasons why master data management is vital to any enterprise IT initiative.

In a recent Oracle podcast, Jody Clayton, director of sales consulting for Oracle Master Data Management and Oracle’s enterprise data quality solutions, discusses master data management and enterprise data quality best practices and gives examples of how companies are achieving transformative benefits by leveraging Oracle’s complete offerings in these areas.

Read excerpts below and listen to the full podcast, “The New Reality: Why Should Organizations Embrace Master Data Management and Data Quality?” to learn more.

Q: How does master data management play a pivotal role in the new challenges (and new reality) that IT is facing?
A: Oracle’s customers are looking to master data management and data quality solutions because they recognize that having consistent quality data is no longer an option; it is a necessity.

For example, improving customer experience is now critical to organizations looking to maintain and cross sell to their existing customer base and gain new customers. It is now more important than ever to ensure that companies are leveraging quality master data (on their customers, products, etc.) as an asset, especially when marketing new products or services. Having a complete master data management and data quality solution as the foundation can drive excellence across applications and business processes. In pursuing ERP, CRM, or enterprise application transformations, organizations need to master and govern their data.

Q: In sales consulting, you work closely with Oracle customers to understand their needs and requirements. What are the top customer requirements when it comes to mastering data and data quality?
A: The top requirement as I see it is data consistency. Given that data comes from a variety of sources and channels, it is more often than not incomplete, inconsistent, and not aligned across data sources. When customers talk about the need for building transformative applications—whether it is around better customer experience or improved supply chain management—it all comes down to: Is their data consistent and accurate? Is the data complete? Is the data aligned? These are some of the biggest requirements we see across industries and with companies of all sizes.

Q: Why do organizations choose Oracle and how can Oracle help them overcome their challenges?
A: Companies choose Oracle for a variety of reasons but the #1 reason is that it offers one of the most complete solutions in the industry. Oracle provides a complete business solution versus a toolkit that needs to be cobbled together with custom code. In addition, Oracle Master Data Management offers true business value, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership and deep integration with applications whether they are from Oracle or not. Lastly, Oracle’s integrated data quality capabilities are specialized for the type of data being mastered, either product or customer.
