Leverage the Power of Social Networks to Recruit Top Talent

According to industry studies, recruiters across many vertical segments consider referrals by existing employees to be one of the most effective ways to attract top talent. Now thanks to Oracle Taleo Social Sourcing Cloud Service, recruiters can automate the referral process and leverage the valuable social media connections being cultivated by organizations and staff members.

In a recent interview, Maria Marasco, Oracle senior director of human capital management product marketing, said Oracle’s new cloud service uses technology obtained through Oracle’s acquisition of SelectMinds last September, and added that the new recruiting tools are now fully integrated with Oracle Taleo Recruiting Cloud Service and Oracle Human Capital Management solutions. In the following excerpts she explains what the new social recruiting capabilities mean for HCM managers.

Q: What’s the connection between talent recruiting and social media?
A: Social media has become ubiquitous in our lives and now it’s being leveraged for business in a variety of ways, including talent recruitment. Part of the reason why social recruiting is really taking off with HCM managers is that it’s referral based—people who are sharing information through their social networks are connecting with others who have similar interests. So, for example, if you are a sales and marketing professional in New York City, chances are that your social connections are filled with other sales and marketing professionals in the area.

Q: What makes Oracle Taleo Social Sourcing Cloud Service unique?
A: Most tools for social recruiting are manual—they require a human to do much of the work. So many employee referral programs traditionally require HR to send out an e-mail about job openings and offer a bonus if you refer somebody. Oracle Taleo Social Sourcing Cloud Service automates that entire process. So first and foremost the recruiter can create the e-mail within our product. But then the service matches all the open jobs with employee titles and geographic locations. Instead of each employee getting e-mails about all the open jobs for the entire organization, he or she gets targeted messages—for example, only for sales and marketing positions in New York City if that matches the most likely contacts for that individual.

Q: How does the service leverage social networking sites?
A: With Oracle Taleo Social Sourcing Cloud Service, individuals can log in with their social credentials and automatically see job descriptions that match the profile of their social connections on LinkedIn or Facebook or Twitter. The individuals can send notices about job openings directly to their connections or they can post a listing on their wall.

All of these options make the whole referral process much easier than in the days when recruiters had to rely on job boards and employment sites to find job seekers.
