Officials Improve Agency Operations with Solutions Built Using Oracle Endeca

NuWave Solutions, a systems integrator and Oracle partner, is carving out a unique niche in the public sector. “We are focusing on helping agencies answer questions they didn’t even know to ask,” says Jim McHugh, NuWave’s vice president, Capabilities and Services.

The resulting solutions can help government agencies address a wide range of critical challenges common to public sector organizations today, including finding ways to reduce fraud, waste, and abuse.

The foundation for these solutions is Oracle Endeca Information Discovery, an enterprise data discovery platform designed for the rapid, intuitive explorations of information from a combination of structured and unstructured sources.

“Oracle Endeca Information Discovery isn’t like typical search engines where you look for things you know to search for,” says Rob Castle, NuWave’s chief technology officer. “Oracle Endeca Information Discovery lets the data point out something that looks unusual and allows the user to explore in more detail. That capability makes our customers’ eyes light up.”

For example, NuWave is leading the development of a solution for a branch of the military. The solution combines Oracle Endeca Information Discovery with Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. This capability provides senior-level leaders near real-time access to visually driven dashboard displays of complex, difficult-to-access readiness and resourcing data.

“When senior leaders see something unexpectedly good or bad, they use this enterprise capability to analyze why it happened, whether it might happen again, and, if it’s something positive, how to make it happen again,” McHugh says. Traditional business intelligence reporting tools cannot help users answer these underlying and forward-looking questions. “This is the transforming power of data analytics,” he adds.

“Every government organization we work with today is inundated with data,” McHugh says. “So much so that they can’t look at their data closely enough to find new, more effective ways of running their agencies—unless they have the right solution.”
