Oracle Excellence Awards: Three Companies Honored for Business Analytics Implementations
Three companies—Hologic, Experian, and INC Research—have won Oracle Fusion Middleware Innovation Awards for their groundbreaking transformations using Oracle Business Analytics solutions.
The winners, announced on October 2 at Oracle OpenWorld 2012, were selected for the uniqueness of their business case, business benefits, level of impact relative to the size of the organization, complexity and magnitude of implementation, and originality of architecture.
Before moving to integrated EPM and BI solutions, Hologic— a leading provider of healthcare solutions for women—relied on an assortment of Excel, Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, and other packaged applications for its consolidation, planning, reporting, and analysis activities.
Hologic partnered with Performance Architects Incorporated and Oracle to create an enterprise performance management (EPM) solution that provides
- A set of well-defined, measurable, and published performance objectives
- A set of metrics to define and describe the relative contribution or influence of business functions on the performance objectives
- A common framework for measurement and collaboration that provides cross-functional understanding of the effect of each area’s performance on objectives
- The ability to predict outcomes and collectively manage performance
A global leader in credit reporting and marketing services with clients in 80 countries, Experian found itself with 50 disparate, locally managed financial and human resources systems, which made global reporting a very spreadsheet-intensive process.
To standardize its financial and reporting systems, Experian turned to Oracle Business Analytics solutions and implementation partner The Hackett Group. Together, they created a truly global reporting solution that also provides a much more robust platform for future growth—including faster integration of acquisitions.
Experian is using Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Oracle Hyperion Data Relationship Management, Oracle Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management, Oracle Essbase, and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition to support its new, global enterprise performance management environment. Experian’s business analytics platform is deployed on a new instance of Oracle E-Business Suite.
Due to swift and steady growth, INC Research—a leading contract research organization—found its operations had outgrown its technologies and processes. To accurately report on performance and make effective revenue growth and profitability decisions, it needed to move beyond existing systems.
To do so, INC Research turned to Oracle, together with MarketSphere Consulting. But they also decided to go one step further, using Oracle Business Analytics to power their own trusted process dashboards—a business-critical company tool that delivers self-service metrics to its customers.
The trusted process dashboards customer portal is now delivering more than 125 metrics, leveraging Oracle Essbase, and presented via self-service Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition dashboards integrated with Oracle WebCenter Portal.
INC Research now has greater visibility, exposure, and enhanced trust with its customers that drug development programs will deliver dependable outcomes and actionable results on time—and it has introduced process controls that expose key metrics to help stay within budget.
The results have been remarkable, including not only reductions of 70 percent in time to complete financial close processes and 50 percent in time to complete planning and forecasting processes, but also a 80 percent jump in sales, driven at least in part by the new dashboards.
"What really jumped out at organizers was the business impact customers are achieving with Oracle’s business intelligence and enterprise performance management solutions," says Neela Chaudhari, group product manager at Oracle. “Many nominated customers described their solutions as key to improving profitability, driving market share, and gaining competitive advantage.”
