Promote Student Retention and Success with Enhancements to Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions

In a move to improve student retention and academic success in higher education, Oracle unveiled two new enhancements to Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.

The new capabilities, delivered as part of Oracle’s model for delivering continuous software updates, help institutions develop curriculum frameworks to guide students when enrolling in courses and help instructors assess learning activities. Schools can easily configure the frameworks for individual requirements without the need for software customizations.

Retain and Guide Students Toward Their Degrees
The new program-enrollment capabilities allow colleges and universities to prescribe required courses in the proper sequence as students work toward degrees or certificates. “This framework provides the structure needed by higher-education institutions throughout the world to support and guide students to their academic goals,” says Susan Beidler, senior director of product strategy for PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.

The software assures that students take the right courses and credit hours to stay on a path to graduation, which helps improve student retention and timely degree completions, Beidler adds. Depending on how schools configure the framework, degree-seeking students may be allowed to register only for prescribed courses each semester or may have options for selecting some electives as well.

Tailor Student Assessments
The new activity management module complements program enrollment by helping institutions determine the best criteria for evaluating student performance in each course and in their progress toward their academic goal. With this new feature, instructors define what learning activities will be required and then use flexible tools for calculating course grades based on these activities. “Institutions can build individualized program structures and match assessment activities to each student, incorporating competencies, class work, life experiences, and other variables,” Beidler says.
