Ready for Cyber Monday? Fewer Than 170 Days Until Peak Trading

The countdown to Cyber Monday is already well underway, and the challenges this year are expected to be especially intense. Time is running out for retailers that want to be proactive and ensure a successful 2014 holiday season.

This year, there are only 18 working and shipping days between Cyber Monday (December 1) and Christmas (December 25), assuming a reasonable final shipping deadline of December 20. At the same time, trends that made the 2013 holiday season tough for retailers are only increasing—record online spending, rising consumer expectations, early competitive promotions, and increased adoption of mobile technologies, to name a few.

"No retailer wants to leave money on the table, especially during the season that generates around 70 percent of retail revenue," says Lou Frio, vice president, Oracle Consulting. "As online consumer spending continues to rise, the risk of losing revenue due to inaction is increasing to a perilous level."

In response, Oracle has produced a new e-book, Three Steps Toward a Successful Holiday Season, which outlines steps retailers can take to

  • Prepare for traffic spikes in line with pricing and promotion plans—including strong contingency planning
  • Meet consumer expectations for cross-channel consistency in terms of prices, promotions, and distribution
  • Go beyond securing revenue to drive the ripple effect of fulfillment and loyalty
It's Not Too Late, Yet: Ensure Holiday Success with Oracle Retail
Oracle Consulting has three specific commerce service offerings to help prepare for holiday readiness, including
  • Oracle Commerce: Business Control Center (BCC) Holiday Readiness
This consulting service for Oracle Commerce customers provides a comprehensive review of a retailer’s marketing calendar and campaigns relative to use of the BCC and the processes it supports. It includes a high-level multiweek assessment of the management of both catalog and noncatalog content, and compares a retailer’s processes against Oracle Commerce best practices.
  • Commerce Search Tuning
This service helps ensure that customers receive an optimal search experience that delivers the right results and avoids “zero-results found” dead ends. This service, designed for Oracle Endeca Guided Search, not only equips retailers with enhancements to improve search relevancy, but also provides a repeatable and periodic process for reviewing and tuning search strategy based on evolving business needs.
  • Holiday Readiness Testing and Tuning
This service improves the capacity, performance, and stability of your Oracle Commerce system by performance and load testing at peak holiday volumes. It identifies bottlenecks, estimates how much traffic your site can handle, and tests if your site is ready for maximum holiday trade. Leverage this iterative process to deliver the best holiday results.
