Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 Simplifies Migration to Oracle Database 12c

Launched in November 2013, Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 streamlines database administration and development—including functionality to support seamless migration to Oracle Database 12c.

Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 is downloadable now on Oracle Technology Network.

Building on innovations in Oracle Database 12c, including data redaction and Oracle Multitenant, Oracle SQL Developer 4.0 provides developers and database administrators with user-friendly tools that speed adoption and time-to-value.

"The cost of migrating legacy systems and applications to Oracle Database continues to plummet because Oracle's migration tools, such as Oracle SQL Developer 4.0, require less custom coding and database development," says Jeff Smith, senior principal product manager, Oracle SQL Developer.

The latest release helps organizations

  • Speed migration. The SQL Translation Framework feature for Microsoft SQL Server and SAP Sybase ASE T-SQL helps developers quickly migrate from third-party platforms to Oracle Database 12c with native SQL code translation.
  • Enhance reporting. Dozens of charting options enable developers to deliver rich, easy-to-interpret reports to internal users and partners.
  • Streamline development. An enhanced command-line interface for report generation and testing allows developers to build features directly into automated processes and tasks, speeding the development process.
  • Improve code. Developers enjoy source control support for the popular GIT technology, as well as many new code assistance features to identify possible syntax errors before code execution.
"We took a look at SQL Developer early on, and at that time it wasn't a viable alternative to our current integrated development environment. With [Oracle SQL Developer] 4.0, that has changed," says Monty Latiolais, president of Oracle Development Tools User Group. "The features are there. The performance is there. And our members like the cleaner, more efficient user interface as well as the ability to access automatic database diagnostic monitor and active session history reports."
