Independent Study Documents Huge ROI for Oracle E-Business Suite Running on Oracle SuperCluster

A new case study documents a potential return on investment of 486 percent over three years for enterprises that adopt an integrated solution consisting of Oracle SuperCluster and Oracle E-Business Suite.

The report was developed by Wikibon, a professional community that shares information about technology and business solutions. It is titled "Case Study: Oracle E-Business Suite and SuperCluster Reach for Single Managed Entity."

The analysis also determined that companies can achieve savings of up to 53 percent with this Oracle platform versus traditional infrastructure deployments, as well as see significant improvements in the flexibility and availability of their IT operations.

Building on a series of studies that demonstrated the value of enhanced converged infrastructures for private clouds, the study concluded that in-house deployment of major mission-critical applications can be competitive with public cloud services.

A Complete Solution for Modern Data Centers
Oracle SuperCluster is a complete pre-engineered and pretested enterprise infrastructure solution. The system combines Oracle SPARC servers, the Oracle Solaris operating system, and Oracle Database running on Oracle Exadata Storage Servers. The engineered system can be optimized and tuned for consolidating Oracle E-Business Suite and other applications. Oracle sells the preconfigured technology as Oracle Optimized Solution for Oracle E-Business Suite.

According to the Wikibon study, enterprises can reduce database licensing and maintenance to US$1.5 million in the optimized environment, or 67 percent less than in traditional implementations. Expenses for database administrators and other operational support personnel also drops from US$1.03 million to US$0.23 million, for a 78 percent savings in optimized environments, the report adds.

The research also looked at the business case for refreshing IT environments with Oracle best practices, including adopting converged infrastructures and integrated application and database support. "Our analysis shows a US$3.64 million net cash flow over three years, equivalent to [net present value] savings of US$3.43 million and an annual ROI of 486 percent," states the report.

Long-term benefits resulting from modern IT models that use converged infrastructures and clouds are also possible, the report says. "As enterprises migrate their own data centers to mega-data centers, and in-house deployment is migrated to collocation within the mega-data center, enterprises can adopt a mixed cloud and in-house deployment strategy, and avoid throwing away huge IT investments."
