An in-depth study published in January 2012 by leading analyst ORC International finds that Oracle Database 11g Release 2 delivers significant time and resource savings compared to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Release 2.

"As part of our commitment to provide our customers with the best database technology for ever-more-complex business needs, Oracle has delivered the industry’s most advanced self-management capabilities for Oracle Database," says Leng Tan, vice president, Applications and Systems Management, Oracle. "Our leadership has enabled our customers to achieve their business goals while reducing IT management costs and complexity. We have also provided Oracle DBAs with unique tools that help them deliver higher value to their organizations."

Specific findings of the study include
  • Oracle Database 11g Release 2 resulted in an overall 49 percent time savings when compared to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Release 2
  • Oracle Database 11g Release 2 resulted in an overall 46 percent steps/complexity savings when compared to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Release 2
