SAP Applications Certified for Oracle’s SPARC SuperCluster T4-4: Simpler, Faster Path to Consolidation

Oracle’s SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 server is now certified to run SAP applications, enabling new options for increasing operating efficiency and reducing costs for organizations that use Oracle technology to support SAP solutions. SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 offers a simpler and more efficient platform for organizations that want to consolidate their SAP environments or modernize legacy SAP systems.

In the following interview, Hazel Alabado, Oracle’s principal product manager for SPARC SuperCluster, discusses what this certification means for SAP users.

Q: What’s the significance of having SPARC SuperCluster certified for SAP applications?
A: This support means you can consolidate all the software required to power an enterprise-class SAP deployment on a single system. Because SPARC SuperCluster is a multipurpose engineered system, you can install and manage your SAP infrastructure, SAP applications, and Oracle Database 11g all on the same hardware and still get optimized performance. Plus SPARC SuperCluster’s built-in virtualization, high availability, security, and systems management allows you to centrally manage every layer of your deployment.

Q: Which SAP products does SPARC SuperCluster T4-4 support?
A: Any SAP infrastructure and applications based on SAP NetWeaver 6.4 and above and certified with Oracle Database 11g Release 2, such as SAP ERP and business warehouse, can now be deployed using SPARC SuperCluster T4-4.

Q: Is there a particular type of organization that will see the biggest benefits from this certification?
A: The news is especially good for a midsize to large enterprise that needs a consolidation platform that combines performance, reliability, and ease of migration. SPARC SuperCluster ships with Oracle Exadata for optimized database performance, and Sun ZFS Storage Appliance for high data throughput and availability. It uses highly reliable SPARC T4 servers that can be combined with Oracle Solaris Cluster to provide extremely high availability. And it runs both Oracle Solaris 11 and Oracle Solaris 10 with their guaranteed binary compatibility, so your existing Oracle Solaris applications will just run.

Q: If I’m an SAP customer and I migrate or consolidate my SAP systems to SPARC SuperCluster, will I still be eligible for support from SAP?
A: Absolutely. Because of the certification, SAP will support all its software components for any organization under a contract, while Oracle will support SPARC SuperCluster platform components.
