Learn How to Use Social Networks to Amp Up Recruiting Strategies
Social Recruiting for Dummies, a new book sponsored by Oracle for human resources professionals, offers an engaging, in-depth look at how to use social networks to increase employee referrals and attract the best talent. The book uses an entertaining, conversational writing style to present serious advice about achieving social recruiting success. Topics include the latest recruiting challenges and how to address them, developing a social strategy, how to put a social-recruiting plan into action, and advice for choosing the right software solutions.
Recently, two Oracle executives provided us with details about the new book: Maria Maraso, former vice president of marketing for SelectMinds and current Oracle senior director of corporate marketing, and Stephanie Lepow, Oracle principal product marketing director for HCM.
Q: Why create a Dummies book about social recruiting?
A. Marasco: Social recruiting is a hot topic in the HR space, but because it’s relatively new it may still be a little confusing for some organizations. And rather than presenting social-recruiting best practices in a formal, textbook style, we wanted a book that reads more like a conversation you’re having with a friend. We think it’s a fun and fresh way to approach this topic.
Q: What are the biggest challenges organizations face in this area?
A. Marasco: The top one is that people are aware that they need to be actively using social media, but many don’t have a full social strategy.
Lepow: And the right approach can help organizations deal with critical issues, such as creating richer referral programs and addressing talent scarcity. That means looking beyond just posting job listings on the well-known social media sites—Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter—which many people are already doing. The book explains how HR professionals can create a comprehensive approach.
Q: How does Oracle’s portfolio of HCM solutions support social recruiting?
A. Marasco: We advocate that companies socialize their referral programs by amping up their traditional approaches to referrals with social media. Oracle Social Talent Management is focused on socializing entire referral programs by tapping into employee social connections and making it easy for them to make referrals through their social networks.
Lepow: And to show how these solutions work in practice, the book offers case studies of how some organizations are using Oracle solutions to enable successful social-recruiting implementations.
Q: Where can HCM organizations find the book?
A. Marasco: They can go to Oracle’s website to get a free copy of Social Recruiting for Dummies, or to learn more about Oracle’s complete lineup of HCM solutions.
