From capture and imaging to powerful document management, search, and retention capabilities, Oracle WebCenter Content is the industry's most complete, open, and integrated enterprise content management platform. Given the depth and breadth of the offering, there are always features that go undiscovered by customers.
Director of Product Marketing Lance Shaw not only has deep insight into Oracle WebCenter Content but is also in regular contact with customers that are successfully using Oracle's solution. So we asked him to list the top hidden gems—often-overlooked features that that can quickly deliver outsized business value.
Desktop integration. Oracle WebCenter Content’s desktop integration enables you to seamlessly integrate your Microsoft Windows Explorer and Microsoft Office applications with Oracle WebCenter Content’s server. As a result, you simplify management of files on the server and make it easier to share files with other users directly from your desktop, and you can do it all through your web browser interface.
Turn off renditions. Renditions are a powerful tool when it comes to working with rich media files. But sometimes you don’t need them to be automatically created and in those cases, you can conserve storage by turning off renditions and saving only the native format version of files.
Electronic signatures. This feature allows a user to sign a document managed within Oracle WebCenter Content’s server. The user creates an electronic signature simply by supplying a password. The result is a verifiable signature record that enables verification that a document being used is in fact the same document that was signed. Electronic signatures can also be incorporated directly in workflows.
Retention schedules. Set up time- or event-based retention schedules to automatically control where files are stored and how long they are kept.
Content folios. The content folio feature enables you to assemble, track, and access logical groupings of content items. For example, assemble all items relevant to an upcoming brochure, including images, logos, legal disclosures, and ad copy—and then manage it as a single item.
PDF watermarking. For added security as well as quality control, the PDF watermarking feature enables you to add security stamps, timestamps, signoff notations, and expiration dates—an especially important feature for manufacturing, life sciences, and other regulated industries.
Content tracker. By providing information about usage patterns such as which content items are most frequently accessed, the content tracker feature helps drive more effective delivery of appropriate, user-centric information.
File store provider.
The powerful and unique file store provider feature allows you to utilize an Oracle Database for file storage while taking advantage of tiered physical storage at the same time. As a result, you can distribute content more easily across systems and achieve better scaling of the Oracle WebCenter Content’s server system.
