Latest Release of Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g Leverages Content Management Infrastructure

With the latest release of Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g, deep integration of Oracle's enterprise content management (ECM) infrastructure brings advanced ECM capabilities directly into Oracle WebCenter's unified user experience platform.

"Essentially with this latest release we have woven the power of Oracle content management into the very fabric of Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g," explains Michelle Huff, director of Product Management for Enterprise 2.0 at Oracle. "Advanced content management capabilities are now exposed to users—right in the context where they work."

ECM in Context
Instead of requiring users to switch working paradigms, they can access a complete range of market-leading ECM capabilities within a single workspace, Website, business process, or Activity Stream that might span multiple enterprise applications and systems, explains Huff.

This integration enhances productivity, since users can resolve issues and manage processes all within the context in which they are working. Key ECM capabilities now exposed within Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g include:
  • Metadata and search. Relevant content becomes easily searchable when a document has been stored with rich metadata. The latest release takes this aspect one step further by exposing comprehensive and flexible metadata management from Oracle content management. By understanding the type of content, who is looking for it, and in what context, Oracle WebCenter exposes the kinds of content and metadata that are most relevant.

  • Wikis and blogs. Now content created via the wiki and blog features of Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g are not stored separately, but instead are saved directly into Oracle content management, providing strong governance and enabling users to easily find content within one unified repository.

  • Workflow, revision control, and item-level security. Now users can access ECM features for managing document workflow, revisions, and security right from their Oracle WebCenter workspaces.
Introducing the Content Presenter
The new Content Presenter component of Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g leverages Oracle Web Content Management for WebCenter content and templates directly, so users can see, edit, and personalize Web pages live right from their browser.

Users can also easily leverage the industry-leading capabilities of Oracle’s Site Studio feature by using its flexible template design. Business users can quickly choose how to display listed content, for example, via tabs or accordion-style, directly from the site. They can browse quickly for images and rich media while writing Web content. And they can quickly review new versions by highlighting changes from previous versions.

"This deep integration makes it much easier for business users to work with Web content directly from Oracle WebCenter sites," says Huff.
