Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g: Converged Platform Provides Modern User Experience

Launched in January 2011, Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g converges the best-of-breed capabilities from Oracle’s entire portfolio of portal products to speed back-end development and provide customers with a comprehensive, modern user experience platform for the enterprise and the Web.

The latest release comes as organizations need a robust user experience platform to fulfill more and more functions, from content sharing and social computing to composite applications and mashups—often all at the same time.

"Instead of juggling multiple platforms and technologies, our customers can leverage the best of all our portal products in a single application and architecture," says Andy MacMillan, vice president of product management for Enterprise 2.0 at Oracle.

Engage Users with a Modern User Experience
By bringing these components onto a single platform, Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g makes it far easier to weave together social computing, content, and business applications into a single portal experience.

"The Achilles heel of transactional systems traditionally has been exceptions and ad hoc processes," says MacMillan, "since they have driven users outside the application itself."

But when targeted content, collaboration tools, social media, and transactional systems are merged into a single modern user experience platform, end users can do their jobs far more effectively—regardless of where they are in the world.

Create Composite Applications and Mashups on the Fly
A key part of the modern user experience is enabling business users to design their own workspaces—and build their own composite applications and mashups. Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g makes it far easier for users to create their own mashups—combinations of elements from different applications. Business users can click any kind of content on a Website—for example, a stock ticker—then reuse it in a new context with just a few intuitive clicks.

The same principle applies to IT as well. By bringing a comprehensive set of components onto a single architecture and design model, Oracle WebCenter Suite 11g enables IT to build composite applications with unprecedented speed.

"Instead of writing apps from scratch, developers can use Oracle WebCenter to create rich composite applications in a fraction of the time," says MacMillan.
