Workforce Reputation Management Turns Social Media into a Powerful Resource for Human Capital Management

Social media isn't just a tool for maintaining close ties with families and friends. This growing communications channel also influences how people are perceived in their professional lives, and by extension, how their organizations are viewed by others. As a result, individuals and organizations alike are becoming more savvy about their social media reputations, says Mark Bennett, director of product strategy at Oracle.

In the following interview, Bennett explains how workers and employers are taking advantage of workforce reputation management technology and advanced analytics to uncover insights that help organizations achieve top business goals.

Q: Why is it important for organizations to adopt workforce reputation management technologies?
A: First and foremost it's a tool to help employees. Once individuals opt-in to reputation management, they increase their visibility among managers, which may open themselves up to new career opportunities. They also take advantage of a resource to better understand their influence and reputations among peers, which can further their careers and help them develop professionally.

Q: How does analyzing the social media interactions of employees help organizations?
A: Each individual's reputation reflects on the enterprise's brand. Positive reputations can influence other top talent to join an organization. In addition, by taking reputation management seriously, organizations show they're interested in furthering their employees' careers by helping them build their brands. It's a mutually beneficial relationship.

Q: Why is it important to automate the monitoring and analysis of social media communications?
A: Hundreds of petabytes of data are now being generated across social media platforms. Enterprises need technology solutions to fully understand these communications and identify information that's meaningful from a professional standpoint for insights into the social reputation and influence of the workforce.

Q: What does Oracle offer for this area?
A: Oracle Fusion Workforce Reputation Management helps organizations improve talent processes and human capital management in a number of ways. It enables managers to search social networks to discover and promote internal talent for important projects and teams. It also measures the social media connections and reach of workers to rate their influence among peers. Oracle Fusion Workforce Reputation Management also provides continuous monitoring of social media activities for highly regulated industries and generates alerts when violations of social media policy controls occur.
