Zero to Cloud in Two Hours: The New Paradigm for Building Private Clouds

Until recently, organizations have had to engage in complex choreography among all the different layers of the technology stack in order to ensure the scalability and reliability required for a truly enterprise-grade private cloud.

Oracle is changing the equation with technology engineered to work together across the complete stack—including Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, a single, integrated toolset to manage the entire cloud lifecycle.

To help deploy a fully operational, enterprise-grade private cloud environment in less than half a day, Oracle has brought key content together into a single, user-friendly Zero-to-Cloud resource center, that includes

  • A cloud management maturity self-assessment. Find out how ready you are to tackle the operational challenges of an enterprise cloud environment.
  • A Webcast with early adopters of Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c.
  • A white paper describing best practices for database consolidation.
  • A white paper about cloud management for Oracle Database.

From Virtualization to Enterprise Cloud
For a humorous but also highly informative take on effective cloud building, you can also check out a video from Oracle OpenWorld 2012. In the video, a fictitious organization has just built what one architect calls a private cloud, but which in fact is a just a glorified virtualized environment. Lead virtualization architect Don faces off against lead Oracle architect Ed, as very serious concerns arise from database administrators, developers, and testers, including

Database sprawl. Although it is easy to set up databases in a virtualized environment, each new database means exponentially more-complex overhead in terms of monitoring, managing, backup, and more.

Very slow provisioning of large databases. It can take hours or even days to provision a 1.5 terabyte database. With Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, it can take as little as a few minutes.

Complex management of development environments. Developers need to be able to develop and manage applications without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure. With Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c, developers can focus on their key objectives.

Complex management of test environments. Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c also provides state-of-the-art, first-of-its-kind testing as a service. As a result, testers and quality assurance professionals can concentrate on the task at hand.
