Accelerating Database Test and Development with Oracle’s Sun ZFS Storage Appliance

Efficiently duplicate large mission critical databases to support continuous demands for application development and testing

Oracle Data Guard provides high availability and disaster protection for mission-critical Oracle databases. These same production databases often require multiple copies, or clones, to support the many development and test activities associated with large production systems. Adding a Sun ZFS Storage Appliance to an existing Oracle Data Guard configuration provides a low cost, time- and space-efficient solution for snapshots and clones.

Oracle customers who haven’t deployed Oracle Data Guard can still use the ZFS Storage Appliance for database test and development acceleration with Oracle Recovery Manager’s incremental merge feature that is used to backup a SAN-based automatic storage management (ASM) database onto an NFS protocol-based file system stored on the ZFS Storage Appliance.
