SPARC T4-2 Servers Deliver New World Record on Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Benchmark with Interactive and Batch Components

BENCHMARK SUMMARY

(As of Monday, 26 September 2011)

Two of Oracle’s SPARC T4-2 servers running JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.2 with Tools 8.98.4.2 in Oracle Solaris Containers, and SPARC T4-1 server running Oracle Database 11g Release 2, deliver record-breaking performance on both the interactive and batch components of the “Day in the Life” benchmark that represents the most popular JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications.

This SPARC T4-powered configuration supports 2.5 times more online users and has 75 percent better response time than IBM’s most recently published results using POWER7 CPUs.

Oracle's solution provides customers with high performance and scalability in a compact form factor with built-in virtualization and security features.

BENCHMARK DESCRIPTION

JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is an integrated applications suite of enterprise resource planning software with application modules that support a diverse set of business operations. The "Day-In-the-Life benchmark kit consists of a collection of scripts that exercise the most common transactions of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application, including business processes such as payroll, sales order, purchase order, work order, as well as manufacturing processes, such as ship confirmation.

Scripts execute online transactions typical of a mid-sized manufacturing company and collect the transactions response times while increasing the numbers of users. Oracle’s Universal Batch Engine (UBE) is used to run the batch component of the test where large numbers of PDF files reports and log files being generated and consists of short UBEs that output Business Report and Summary Analysis, medium UBEs and long UBEs that simulate Payroll, Sales Order, Night Only jobs. Batch component executes UBEs concurrently and performance is being measured in terms of numbers of UBE tasks completed per minute.

  • The objective of this round of the test was to demonstrate the performance and scalability of SPARC T4-based servers when using both interactive and batch components of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne benchmark.
  • Delivering record-breaking performance on both the interactive and batch components of the "Day in the Life" benchmark that represents the most popular JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications, the SPARC T4-based configuration demonstrated the ability to run 112 Universal Batch Engine (UBE) processes concurrently with 10,000 online users.
  • Two SPARC T4-2 servers running JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.2 with Tools 8.98.4.2 in Oracle Solaris Containers, and SPARC T4-1 server running Oracle Database 11g Release 2, delivered a new world record result of 10,000 interactive users, with an average response time of 0.351 seconds, concurrent with 67 batch jobs per minute.
  • Compared to previous generation of SPARC systems, the SPARC T4-powered configuration supports 2 times more online users with 2.5 times better response time and runs batch processing component six times faster.
  • On the interactive component of this benchmark, the SPARC T4-based configuration can support 2.5 times more online users than the POWER7-based IBM P750 system with 75 percent better response time.
