SPARC T4-2 Server Tops Industry-Standard, General-Purpose Java Benchmark

Oracle's SPARC T4-2 server posted the world record result on SPECjvm2008, a general-purpose, multithreaded Java benchmark. The winning combination of the SPARC T-Series system, Oracle Solaris 11 OS, and Oracle's Java HotSpot Virtual Machine (VM), the industry-leading Java Virtual Machine, offers customers who are using Java to run their applications a proven and stable environment with the best performance in the industry.
SPECjvm2008 is a multithreaded Java benchmark suite measuring the performance of a Java Runtime Environment (JRE). The benchmark focuses on executing a single application and reflects the performance of the operating system and the underlying processor and memory subsystem as the system executes the JRE. This multithreaded Java benchmark stresses specific aspects of JVM performance, including threading, locks, just-in-time (JIT) compiler, and the virtual memory management system. It contains a broad collection of real-world applications and is applicable to measuring general-purpose Java performance on a wide variety of client and server systems.
The SPARC T4-2 server, equipped with two SPARC T4 2.85 GHz processors, delivered a composite result of 454.25 SPECjvm2008 Peak ops/m, the highest result ever posted on this benchmark.
Oracle continues to demonstrate performance leadership with each new SPECjvm2008 benchmark submission, setting the standard for Java platform performance.
Compared to the previous record of 320.52 SPECjvm2008 Peak ops/m using the SPARC T3-2 system and Solaris 10 OS, this result is over 41% faster.
The result proves that SPARC T-Series systems together with version 7 of Java HotSpot VM, the latest release of the most stable Java platform in the industry, and Oracle Solaris OS comprise an ideal choice for customers deploying Java to run their applications on a single system.
