SPARC T4-4 Servers Set First World Record on PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 Benchmark
(As of Tuesday, 30 October 2012)
Oracle's SPARC T4-4 servers set a new world record running Oracle's PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) 9.1 using a Unicode Oracle Database 11g Release 2 on Solaris 11. The servers supported 18,000 concurrent PeopleSoft HRMS 9.1 Self-Service users with sub-second response time while also running the PeopleSoft Enterprise Payroll (North American) 9.1 batch in 32.4 minutes. The benchmark configuration included one SPARC T4-4 server for the application tier, one SPARC T4-2 server for the Web tier, and one SPARC T4-4 server for the database tier.
This is also the first PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 benchmark running both PeopleSoft HRMS Self-Service and PeopleSoft Payroll (North American) benchmarks concurrently to simulate a real enterprise environment.
This benchmark combines the PeopleSoft HRMS Self-Service OLTP and the PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1 Payroll (North American) batch workload on Unicode Oracle Database 11g Release 2.
The PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 benchmark simulates online users in an extra-large organization performing typical HCM transactions like viewing paychecks and updating employee profile by employees, managers, and human resource administrators, and returns values for search and saved transaction times. The PeopleSoft Enterprise 9.1 Payroll (North American) benchmark represents typical batch workloads for an extra-large organization processing employee payroll. The application calculates gross to net earnings, deductions and taxes, and is fully integrated with Oracle's other PeopleSoft Enterprise products, allowing for coordination of a wide range of salary, reward and expense payments. The benchmark metric is the cumulative elapsed time taken to complete Paysheet Creation, Payroll Calculation, and Payroll confirmation business application processes.
The SPARC T4-4 server processed payroll for 500,000 employees in 32.4 minutes, demonstrating the significant transaction processing power of Payroll (North America) while concurrently running online workloads as well.
This is the first three-tier PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 benchmark achieving 18,000 on-line concurrent users while processing payroll batch workload with 0.988 and 0.539 seconds weighted average search and save response times, respectively.
The SPARC T4-4 in the Application tier was configured with Oracle Solaris Zones to provide a flexible and scalable environment for consolidating additional PeopleSoft modules.
The average CPU utilization was 17% on the SPARC T4-2 Web server, 59% on the SPARC T4-4 application server and 47% (online + batch) on the SPARC T4-4 database server, leaving significant headroom for additional processing across the three tiers.
