SPARC T3-1 Server Delivers New Record Score on Oracle's JDEdwards EnterpriseOne Benchmark
(As of Monday, 20 September 2010)
Using a "Day in the Life" test that represents the most popular of Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications, Oracle's SPARC T3-1 server, running Oracle Application Server 10g R3 and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 with Tools 188.8.131.52 in Oracle Solaris Containers, in tandem with Oracle's Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server running Oracle Database 11g, delivered a new record result of 4200 users.
Oracle's solution provides customers with high performance and scalability in a compact form factor with built-in virtualization and security features.
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is an integrated applications suite of enterprise resource planning software with application modules that support a diverse set of business operations. The “Day-In-the-Life (DIL) benchmark kit consists of a Universal Batch Engine and a collection of scripts that exercise the most common transactions of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications, including business processes such as payroll, sales order, purchase order, work order, as well as manufacturing processes, such as ship confirmation. Scripts execute online transactions typical of a mid-sized manufacturing company and collect the transactions response times while increasing the numbers of users.
The objective of this round of the test was to demonstrate the performance and scalability of the SPARCT3-1 server using only the online component of the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne benchmark. Therefore, the environment was optimized to support a large number of concurrent users while maintaining an adequate response time, required for successful completion of this benchmark.
The SPARC T3-1 server running Oracle Application Server 10g R3 and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 in Oracle Solaris Containers together with a Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server running Oracle Database 11g delivered the highest number of users ever recorded on the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne “Day in the Life” benchmark.
The SPARC T3-1 paired with a SPARC Enterprise M3000 server achieved 4200 concurrent users for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 running on Oracle Solaris 10.
This solution provides customers with high performance and scalability in a compact form factor with built-in virtualization and security features, further reducing operational costs.
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 takes advantage of the large number of compute threads available in SPARC T3-1 server at the application tier while achieving good response times.
This benchmark uses Oracle Solaris Containers for Web and application tier consolidation. Oracle Solaris Containers provide flexibility, easier maintenance and better CPU utilization while leaving processing capacity for additional growth.
The Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 provides a compact 2RU platform for customers deploying Oracle Database 11g on Oracle Solaris.
The combination of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1, Oracle Database 11g R1, Oracle OC4J application server 10g R3 running on the SPARC T3-1 server and Oracle Database 11g running on a Sun SPARC Enterprise M3000 server with Oracle Solaris 10 9/10, comprises an ideal environment for hosting complex, multi-tier JD Edwards EnterpriseOne business applications and should be pertinent to customers running enterprise resource planning software.
