Oracle Sets New World Record Result on SAP Sales and Distribution Parallel Standard Application Benchmark with Sun Fire X4470 Servers

Four of Oracle's Sun Fire X4470 servers, built to deliver enterprise-class performance, scalability, and reliability in a compact 3RU space, posted the highest result on the SAP Sales and Distribution (SD) Parallel Standard Application Benchmark with the SAP Enhancement Package 4 for SAP ERP 6.0. Oracle's solution, which includes Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) running on Oracle Solaris with Oracle's Sun Storage 6180 Array, supported a record 40,000 SAP SD-Parallel Standard Application Benchmark users.

This breakthrough score was achieved by connecting four Sun Fire X4470 servers (16 processors, 128 cores, 256 threads) in a highly available configuration with Oracle RAC and demonstrates the superior scalability and performance of Oracle's software and hardware.

BENCHMARK DESCRIPTION

SAP maintains a suite of benchmarks to demonstrate the performance of competitive systems on various ERP application products. The SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark represents the critical tasks performed in real-world ERP business environments. Specifically, the SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark has a two-tier ERP business test that represents full business workloads of order processing and invoice processing, while demonstrating the ability to run both application and database software on a single system. The SAP SD-Parallel Standard Application Benchmark runs the same workloads as the SAP SD Standard Application Benchmark and allows the use of parallel and distributed databases. The latest SAP enhancement package 4 for the SAP ERP 6.0 application (Unicode) enables seamless multilingual support, and brings extra overhead related to processing of larger character strings associated with Unicode encoding. Unicode is a computing standard that allows for the representation and manipulation of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems.
