Equipped with two Intel Xeon 5600 processor series CPUs capable of running OpenMP applications with 24 compute threads, the Sun Blade X6270 M2 server module delivered outstanding performance on the large suite of the industry-standard SPEC OMP2001 benchmark. This result demonstrates Oracle Solaris and Oracle Solaris Studio leadership in the technical compute space.

BENCHMARK DESCRIPTION

The SPEC OMP benchmark represents workloads often used in high-energy physics, weather modeling, computational chemistry, and mechanical design, and consists of medium- and large-problem sets that stress the computer's processor, memory, compilers, and OpenMP implementation.

BENCHMARK OUTCOME

The Sun Blade X6270 M2 server module proves that it is the industry’s best-performing two-processor system on the large problem set of industry-standard SPEC OMP2001, with result of 291,062 SPECompL2001.

Oracle’s x86 blade server utilized two Intel Xeon X5680 processors (12 cores, 24 OMP threads) and was running Oracle Solaris 10 with Oracle Solaris Studio 12 Update 1 compiler software.

Additionally, the Sun Blade X6270 M2 server module beat the result of 286,521 SPECompL2001 posted by the Cisco USC B200 M2 system (2 CPUs, 12 cores, 24 OMP threads), equipped with identical Intel Xeon X5680 processors, which was running RedHat Linux and Intel compiler software.
