Oracle Beats NetApp with 2x the Performance at Less Than Half the Cost

Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance delivers over double the performance of the NetApp FAS 3270A array using the SPC-1 benchmark. Additionally, this benchmark demonstrates the significantly better competitive value of the Sun ZFS Storage 7420 Appliance with less than half the cost per IOPS.

SPC Benchmark-1 (SPC-1) is an industry-standard storage benchmark that provides a comprehensive performance analysis environment for storage subsystems. The I/O workload in SPC-1 is characterized by predominately random I/O operations, as typified by multiuser OLTP, database, and email server environments. SPC-1 uses a highly efficient, multithreaded workload generator to thoroughly analyze direct-attach or network-storage subsystems. The SPC-1 benchmark enables companies to rapidly produce valid performance and price/performance results using a variety of host platforms and storage network topologies.

These SPC-1 benchmark results show the competitive advantage of the Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance configured using 8 Gb fibre channel (FC) host interfaces.

• The Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance delivered an outstanding result of 137,066 SPC-1 input/output operations per second (IOPS) at $2.99 per SPC-1 IOPS (1)
• Compared to the NetApp FAS3270A array result of 68,035 SPC-1 IOPS the Sun ZFS Storage 7420 appliance delivers more than more than double the NetApp SPC-1 IOPS at a fraction of its $7.48/ SPC-1 IOPS cost for 2.4x better price/performance.(2)
