Oracle Linux

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Oracle Linux is fully compatible—both source and binary—with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. An independent, third-party white paper from the Edison Group, Oracle Linux: True Enterprise-Quality Linux Support includes laboratory test results which further demonstrate this true compatibility. Oracle Linux is certified for compliance with the Linux Standard Base (LSB) standard, which reduces the differences between individual Linux distributions and greatly reduces the costs involved with porting applications to different distributions, as well as lowers the cost and effort involved in after-market support of those applications. It is free to download, use and distribute in the form of ISO images as well as individual RPM packages.

Learn more about certified hardware and supported releases. Partners testing and certifying their applications on Oracle Linux will, at most, simply install their application on Oracle Linux and verify the information described in these data sheets:

 Oracle Value-Added Technology
ASMLib
ASMLib is a support library for the Automatic Storage Management feature of Oracle Database which simplifies database administration. More Information
OCFS2
Oracle Cluster File System 2 (OCFS2) is an open source, general-purpose, extent-based clustered filesystem which Oracle developed and contributed to the Linux community, and accepted into Linux kernel 2.6.16. More Information
Version 1.6 Version 1.6
OFED/RDS
The Open Fabric Enterprise Distribution (OFED) aims to deliver a unified, cross-platform, transport-independent software stack for RDMA, including a range of standard protocols such as Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS). Oracle provides updated versions of the OFED RPMs on top of the versions included in the base OS image. More Information
Version 1.5.1 Version 1.5.1
Oracle Clusterware for Linux
Cluster management software is integral to clustering, and Oracle Clusterware, cluster management software previously available only with Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), is now available under a separate license to Oracle Linux support customers at the basic and premier levels at no additional cost. More Information
T10 PI Data Integrity
T10 Protection Information (T10-PI) enables applications or kernel subsystems to attach metadata to I/O operations, allowing devices that support T10-PI to verify the integrity before passing them further down the stack and physically committing them to disk.
Paravirtualized Network and Storage I/O drivers
Included paravirtualized drivers for optimal performance of HVM guests running in Oracle VM.
Oracle IC
Oracle Instant Client (IC) allows you to run your applications without installing the standard Oracle client or having an ORACLE_HOME. OCI, OCCI, Pro*C, ODBC, and JDBC applications work without modification, while using significantly less disk space than before. More Information
Oracle Linux Test (OLT) Kit
The Oracle Linux Test (OLT) Kit is a test framework designed to verify Linux kernel functionality and stability essential for the Oracle Database both in single node and in RAC configurations. OLT includes stress and destructive tests for network and storage failures. More Information
Oracle Management Pack for Linux
Available exclusively for Oracle Linux Basic and Premier support customers, the Oracle Management Pack for Linux provides an integrated and cost-effective solution for complete Linux server lifecycle management. More Information
Oracle Validated Configurations
Oracle Validated Configurations are pre-tested, validated architectures with software, hardware, storage, and networking components with included documented best practices for deployment. More Information
TBD
Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN)
ULN is a comprehensive resource for Oracle Linux support subscribers, and offers access to Linux software patches, updates and fixes, along with information on up2date program and support policies. More Information
Yum
The Oracle public yum server offers a free and convenient way to install packages from the Oracle Linux and Oracle VM installation media via a yum client. Note that errata are not available via this public yum server; to access errata you must have a valid support contract to access ULN. Also note that this yum server is offered without support. More Information
 Third-Party Validations
LSB Certification
The Linux Standard Base (LSB) reduces the differences between individual Linux distributions and greatly reduces the costs involved with porting applications to different distributions, as well as lowers the cost and effort involved in after-market support of those applications. More Information

EAL4+ Security Evaluation
The Evaluation Assurance Level of an IT product or system is a numerical grade assigned following the completion of a Common Criteria security evaluation, an international standard backed by a U.S. Government initiative of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the National Security Agency (NSA).
