| Timing | Topic | Session Abstract |
| 09:00 - 09:45 | Registration | |
| 09:45 - 10:45 | The Future of the Java Platform Speaker: Simon Ritter | Java is the most widely used programming language today driven by the language's ease of use, maturity, security and performance. In this session we will talk about what the future holds for the development of the platform in terms of new language features, extensions to the API library and making the Java virtual machine better at running dynamically typed languages. |
| 10:45 - 11:45 | Beyond Smart-Phones: Rich Applications and Services for the Mobile Masses Speaker: Terrence Barr | Rich applications & services such as media, communication, social networking, and location-based services are all the rage, yet are often limited to high-end smart-phones. However, today's mass-market feature phones with Java runtimes are also capable of running rich applications and services. And with the open source Lightweight UI Toolkit (LWUIT) your rich user interface is ready in a snap. In this session we'll look at the use case of a social networking mashup to present the building blocks of a rich client application by integrating phone features (address book, location, etc), several social networking services, & LWUIT to create a slick, touch-enabled, user client application that can compete with smart-phone platforms. A demonstration of the application and some code walk-through will be included. |
| 11:45 - 12:15 | Break |
| 12:15 - 13:15 | Java Embedded Presentation and Demo Speaker: Dr. Rainer Eschrich | More and more Java is being used in the embedded market. High end embedded devices have had the ability to run Java SE Embedded, the well known Java Standard Edition in Embedded environments for some time now. The talk will start with an introduction of the Oracle Java SE for Embedded solutions. Technological features, optimizations for the embedded environment and the underlaying platform requirements will be presented. Best practices for deployments will be covered and existing deployments shown. Demos of Java SE embedded will be shown, demonstrating the ease of development and the capability of the Java SE Embedded Platform. |
| 13:15 - 14:15 | Lunch |
| 14:15 - 15:00 | Java Panel |
| 15:00 - 15:20 | Break |
| 15:20 - 16:20 | Java EE 6 and GlassFish 3.1: Simplified Enterprise Application Development and Deployment Speaker: Simon Ritter | Java EE 6 delivers a greatly simplified programming model for creating powerful enterprise applications building on many of the ideas provided by popular open source frameworks. This session will examine the key features of Java EE 6 including the Java Persistence Architecture, Web beans, dependency injection and profiles. We'll also explore some of the ideas proposed for the next version of Java EE which will be focussed on 'Cloud' based applications. GlassFish is the open source reference implementation for the Java EE specification and we'll look at how GlassFish can be used to quickly and easily deploy Java EE 6 based applications. |
| 16:20 - 17:20 | JavaFX: Rich User Interfaces for Enterprise Applications Speaker: Simon Ritter | JavaFX is a set of technologies aimed at simplifying the development of complex and rich user interfaces. JavaFX version 2 moves away from the scripting language that had been used and provides a comprehensive set of APIs for regular Java applications to use, avoiding the learning curve associated with a new syntax. This session will explore the features that JavaFX provides to develop compelling user interfaces for enterprise applications. Features such as binding, simple animation timelines and the use of scene graph will be explained with the aid of demonstrations. |
| 17:20 - 17:30 | Q&A - Wrap-Up |
