Make The Future Java Workshop August 7 – 8, 2012

The Make the Future Java Workshop is open to the children of Oracle employees, ages 13 and up. Taught by Carnegie Mellon and University of Kent computer science professors, the workshop will use award-winning educational tools to help students learn the Java programming language by creating animations and games.

  • Alice (Alice.org), a visual 3-D educational tool with a drag-and-drop interface to create animations. Download and view Alice screencasts
  • Greenfoot (Greenfoot.org), a visual 2-D educational tool with a code editor to create games and simulations. Download, view tutorials and see project samples
The computer workshop is free, but space is limited so registrations will be first come, first served.

Workshop Hours: Onsite check-in starts at 8:30 a.m.. Continental breakfast is provided.
Workshop runs from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Lunch and afternoon snack are provided.

Eligibility: Children of Oracle employees, ages 13 and up.

Pre-requisites: None. No prior programming experience or laptop necessary. All the tools you need to start learning about Java will be provided.

The following two forms are also required. Please complete both forms and bring them with you to the event. Volunteers Needed!

Oracle employees are encouraged to join us and help students build animations and games. A two-hour training is offered prior to the workshop to introduce the Alice and Greenfoot tools. Training is not mandatory, but highly recommended if you have no prior programming experience.

Volunteer training is from 3:30 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Monday, August 6, at the Oracle Conference Center, 350 Oracle Parkway, Redwood City, CA.
