General Electric Capital Retail Finance data warehouse migration to Exadata
- Mark Alexander, Architect
GE Capital is the financial services unit of General Electric and one of the world’s largest credit providers. For more than one million businesses, large and small, GE Capital provides financing to purchase, lease, and distribute equipment, as well as capital for real estate and corporate acquisitions, refinancing, and restructuring. For its more than 100 million consumer customers, GE Capital offers credit cards, sales finance programs, home, car and personal loans, and credit insurance.
GE Capital Retail Finance group’s legacy data warehouse environment was built on Oracle technology. When it came time to rethink the environment, the company did its due diligence. It conducted a paper analysis of five solutions and narrowed the list to Oracle Exadata Database Machine and a competing solution. While initial costs were comparable, the move to a different vendor platform would be expensive.
