Installing the Learning Library Packaged Application

In this tutorial, you install a sample packaged application, supporting objects and images necessary to run a Learning Library.

Overview

At the DevLearn 2011 Conference and Expo, Jenny Tsai and Marcie Young presented 'How to Build a Learning Library in an Hour'. This tutorial demonstrates how to install a sample Learning Library packaged application that you can use as a starting point to build your own learning library. In addition, you install the supporting objects which contain the library metadata that is installed in the database. You also install the images that the library uses.

The Learning Library packaged application you install in this tutorial assumes you are using the free Application Express hosted instance available for customers to use. The application is a sample of the existing Oracle Learning Library.

Prerequisites

Before starting this tutorial, you should:

Request a workspace and account from apex.oracle.com

Download and unzip to files.zip into your working directory.

Importing the OLL Packaged Application

In this topic, you import the OLL packaged application into your workspace.

Open your browser and login to your apex.oracle.com workspace.

From the Application Express Home page select the arrow next to Application Builder and select Import from the drop down list.

Click Choose File and select the oll_packaged_app.sql file from the directory where you downloaded the files from the prerequisites section and click Open.

Make sure Database Application, Page or Component Export is selected for File Type and click Next.

The export file was imported. Click Next to install the file.

Install the file into the schema assigned to your workspace. Accept the defaults and click Install.

Install the supporting objects for this packaged application. Make sure Yes is selected for Install Supporting Objects and click Next.

Click Install to confirm that you want to install the supporting objects..

The supporting objects were installed successfully. Click Install Summary.

Notice that the objects were created successfully. In the next section you install the application images. Select the Application Builder breadcrumb

 

Importing the Application's Images

In this topic, you import the images that the application you imported in the previous section needs. Perform the following steps:

Click Import.

Click Choose File and select the oll_create_oll_img.sql file from the directory where you downloaded the files from the prerequisites section and click Open.

Select Image Export for File Type and click Next.

The export file was imported. Click Next to install the file.

Make sure the application you created in the previous section is selected for Install Into Application and click Install Image.

 

Installing Sample Data into the Learning Library

In this topic, you run the Learning Library application and install sample data. Perform the following steps:

Locate the Learning Library Application you just imported and click the icon. Then click the Run Application icon,

Notice that the Home page does not contain any data. Click the Administration tab.

You may be asked to login to the application. You must login with your oracle.com username/password. If you do not have one, you can request one free from www.oracle.com website.

The Administration page contains all the pages where you manage the content that you add to the Learning Library. In this case, you want to install some sample data. Under Sample Data, click Deinstall and/or Install Sample Data.

Under Install Sample Data, click Install.

The installation was completed. Click the Home tab.

Notice that the Home page now contains some sample data.

To modify the sample data, click the Administration tab and navigate through the many components used throughout the Learning Library.
