Customer Role: How User Experience Research Is Conducted

Navigation
The Navigation pattern group contains patterns for dashboard navigation, charts and graphs navigation, and record navigation.

The Page Details pattern helps users with the repetitive task of navigating from one detail page to another without having to return to the main object list or table. This provides a more efficient means of navigating among detail pages when users are working on lists of records because they can move sequentially between detail pages to perform actions. This pattern can be applied at the page level or subheader level.

Required Screen Elements

The Page Details pattern contains the following screen elements:

Component Type
Required Component
Navigation Links

Links enable users to access a new page or a section within the dashboard. The links can also be used to open external Web sites and documents.

Icons

Icons are also used as a navigational aid within the dashboard. Icons can be used to trigger actions defined in the dashboard.

Drop-down Lists

In certain scenarios, drop-down lists play a critical role in grouping a set of navigation links. The lists enable users to save screen areas and provide a logical grouping to the links.

Pattern Sample
Linear Navigation

The user navigates in a linear sequence from the detail page of the first record accessed to the detail page of the last record in the master object list.

Non-linear Navigation

Non-linear navigation enables users to select a subset of contiguous or non-contiguous records from the master list to view or update. Users are presented with the full object details in a single page and then move to the next full page when they are finished.
