Cloud Defense
“The current state of the art of cloud defenses is just not good enough, not even close,” Oracle Executive Chairman and CTO Larry Ellison said during his keynote at Oracle OpenWorld this week.

That’s why Oracle built its new second-generation cloud infrastructure, which not only protects the perimeter of customers’ cloud-based servers, Ellison said, but also isolates them from one another and from Oracle’s own control code inside its cloud. That prevents an attacker from moving laterally within the cloud to steal or manipulate data. “Other customers can’t look at your data. We can’t look at your data,” he said. Furthermore, that second-gen cloud infrastructure deploys the latest machine learning technology to “find and kill” the malicious attacks of sophisticated, bot-equipped hackers. Read our keynote coverage for more of Ellison’s unique perspective.

For startup FTW, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure makes it possible to stream the tunes live from a New York DJ to viewers with very low “glass-to-glass” latency. What’s next for this startup?

New Mexico College Deploys Blockchain for Digital Diplomas
Central New Mexico Community College graduates earn beautiful paper diplomas covered in fine calligraphy, colorful seals, and official signatures. This summer they also got the same information authenticated and recorded in blockchain technology. The point? Prospective employers and other authorized users can verify whether a diploma and its details, such as the year, degree, and honors, match a student’s claims.
Five Key Startup Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
One common mistake founders make? Hiring people just like themselves, says JD Weinstein, who heads the Oracle Global Startup Ecosystem, in Austin, Texas.
