For you this week:

In 2020 CIOs are feeling the pressure to help their people innovate. Read how they’re using cloud and autonomous tech to get it done. Then see an example of just that kind of innovation in a nifty new cloud-based expenses app. Next, track the brisk expansion of Oracle’s global cloud regions and learn to use RabbitMQ for light messaging in your next app.

CIO Priorities 2020
Top 10 Strategic CIO Priorities for 2020
First on the list: Accelerate the pace of innovation. CIOs need to see the broad shift to the cloud, including autonomous technologies, as freeing their IT organizations to spend more time and money on developing customer-wowing, market-share-expanding, products and services—and less time and money on system maintenance, tuning, security, and upgrades. What’s next?
How the Cloud Can Drive Efficiency for Road Warriors
Example #1: Consultants at IT services company BIAS can now take a picture of dinner receipts from within their expense reporting app and link it to a meeting request they’ve already entered. The system knows attendees’ names, scans expense amounts, uses GPS to identify restaurants, and enters everything into expense reports. Other big improvements?
Oracle Cloud Regions
Oracle Builds on Cloud Momentum with Five New Regions Worldwide
To run critical systems in the cloud, Oracle customers need fully independent cloud regions for disaster recovery purposes. That’s why Oracle has committed to having 36 cloud regions available by the end of 2020. Just this month, the company announced local regions in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, Canada, and the Netherlands, all open for business and available in the Oracle Cloud Console.
Tech Dive: Getting Started with RabbitMQ in Oracle Cloud
A good option for lightweight messaging is RabbitMQ, which has support for multiple protocols (either directly, or through plugins) such as AMQP, STOMP, and MQTT. Here we walk you through the steps it takes to get RabbitMQ up and running in Oracle Cloud.
