Covid Chatbot
IntraSee COVID-19 Bot for Higher Education
In these difficult COVID-19 times that we live in, information is constantly changing and therefore the demand by people everywhere to find out “what is the latest news about …” is skyrocketing. To the extent that help desks across the globe cannot keep up with demand.
Adding more and more people to answer the phones is not a viable option, especially when there are so many other things to do. Thankfully there is a way to juggle all these competing demands, and the solution resides with a “digital worker”. AKA chatbot.
When “help” is more important than ever, and it needs to be fast and accurate, a digital assistant (chatbot) can be a game changer.
Bridging The Gap
Bridging the gap for remote workers through digital assistants by Suhas Uliyar
AI-based chatbots or digital assistants stand to change the way we interact with business applications, not just consumer ones. The main benefit is the ability to get immediate responses to queries via natural local language, without having to download apps or get training.
While we have the freedom to engage in user-friendly experiences in our personal lives – such as Alexa and Siri – there have been few options for people in their professional lives. But that’s changing. As Steve Miranda, Oracle’s executive vice president of application development, remarked, “In HR, every common question or transaction has lent itself nicely to digital assistants. Within the next year, we will be calling HTML our ‘old UI.’ Every transaction you have will be through a digital assistant UI.”

IFFCO Empowers Employees and Customers with Oracle Digital Assistant by Sahiz Kaur
Indian Farmers Fertilizers Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) is the biggest co-op in India. They are one of the largest manufacturers and marketers of fertilizers. Many of their employees and customers come from a lower economical background and lack formal education. This creates a challenge as most of the farmers cannot afford to purchase laptops or computers to access information, products, and services provided by IFFCO. However, nowadays everyone has a smartphone and IFFCO decided to leverage that along with Oracle Digital Assistant to meet their users where they are.

How to respond to user inactivity using the Oracle Web SDK messenger. An implementation strategy by Frank Nimphius
During a bot conversation, users can be distracted for a short time and become inactive. With the Oracle Web SDK, your skills can remind users after a certain idle time or even cancel the conversation. This behavior however does not come out-of-the box but requires you to design your dialog flow conversation for it.
This article explains an implementation strategy that allows bot to remind users of the conversation they started and also to close a conversation that sat idle for too long. Using this implementation, you can also avoid users from staying idle beyond the time configured as the channel session expiry time.

This article explains how you can use Twilio voice APIs to expose Oracle Digital Assistant to telephony. Twilio Voice Webhook To integrate Oracle Digital Assistant with Twilio Voice, you need to build a webhook channel to dispatch between the Twilio APIs and your digital assistant or skill. The webhook used in this article can be downloaded as a sample

How To Convert Q&A Modules In Oracle Digital Assistant To Answer Intents by Frank Nimphius
The answer intent feature has been introduced to recent versions of Oracle Digital Assistant (ODA) and is available in ODA 19.4.1 and for Oracle Digital Assistant versions executing on the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Improvements to Oracle's intent resolution engine made it possible to provide questions and answers as intents. In this setup, utterances added to an intent are used to train the model so that the model is able to display the answer with the highest confidence it has.

How to Optimize The Display of Long Texts in Oracle Digital Assistant Web Messenger by Asaf Lev
A good practice for messages in a bot conversation is to keep them short. Messenger have a limited area for displaying messages, so longer text responses cause the user to scroll as they read. Often also the full message is not needed for a user to understand and continue. This article explains how you can optimize longer bot messages displayed in the Oracle Web Messenger client to only show the message in full if the user clicks on a link or button.

Building Model Driven Questionnaire Conversations Using Composite Bag Entities in Oracle Digital Assistant by Frank Nimphius
Composite bag entities group related entities and items of type string, location and attachment to a single entity that represents a real-world object like an order, a booking, a reservation, an incident report and many more. The value for each item in a composite bag entity can be resolved through natural language processing (nlp) or by the user when prompted to enter a value.

Editable Table with Visual Builder - Additional Tips by Shay Shmeltzer
In a previous post I showed how to create editable tables in Visual Builder. This entry will cover two additional behaviors you might want to add to your tables - sending only changed records to the backend and adding a single click option to edit a row. Update only changed rows.

In the video I published on creating an editable table, I looped over every record in the table sending each to the backend to be saved. A better approach would be to only send changed records to the backend. In the video below I start from the previous app and add an array that will save the id of records that have changed.

Visual Builder - Migrating Sample Components to the Latest Versions by Duncan Mills
In Oracle Visual Builder we provide a capability to add additional custom components into the page designer component palette from a shared catalog. As part of this offering we have pre-seeded the catalog with a set of example components that you are free to use (unsupported) or copy and adapt (they are provided under the Universal Permissive License 1.0). When we originally released this feature we partitioned these example components into three component packs (see this blog article to learn about packs). Those packs where prefixed oj-sample, oj-sample-mobile and oj-ext. As time has gone by, we've realized that there is really no value in managing each of these component sets separately and so we've consolidated all of the components into the base oj-sample pack.

Oracle WebLogic - First Look by Dirk Nachbar
Now let's have a look on the new Oracle WebLogic Server
At first, we can use now a JDK 11 with the WebLogic Server, for the following showcase I am using a JDK 11.0.6. At first download the required software installation files:

WebLogic Server Generic
JDK 11.0.6

Then transfer the above files to your target server. For the JDK installation, my personal preferences are, that I install the JDK under the oracle software user, so that I am independent from the Java delivered and maintained by the Linux distribution.
Helidon – Java-based Cloud-native application development by Sven Bernhardt
In my last post, I wrote about Cloud-native app development in the Oracle Cloud (respectively Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, OCI). From that, we now have a rough idea about Cloud-native development, the principles behind it and what OCI offers to support Cloud-native applications. In this post – as promised in the last post - I’ll give a brief introduction to Helidon, an open source framework that is mainly driven by Oracle.

WebLogic on Kubernetes
Oracle WebLogic Server and Oracle WebLogic Monitoring Exporter by Dirk Nachbar
In a previous blogpost I was already talking about the Oracle WebLogic Monitoring Exporter, which is generating Prometheus conform metrics out of the Oracle WebLogic Server 12.2.x.
In the WebLogic Monitoring Exporter release 1.1.1 was a small issue with the option "domainQualifier: true". This option was causing, that a non-Prometheus conform metric was generated and therefore your Prometheus Server couldn't capture the metrics. With the actual release 1.1.2 of the WebLogic Monitoring Exporter this issue is fixed, many thanks to the Development Team behind the WebLogic Monitoring Exporter.

New Oracle WebLogic 14.1.1 on Oracle Kubernetes Engine by Michel Schildmeijer
Last week, Oracle Product Director Will Lyons announced the long expected release of Oracle WebLogic 14.1.1. You can find all the details about this release on and on my blog. Therefore, I won't go into details about all the nice new features of it.

I'd rather now wanted to test out if this version was ready to run on a Kubernetes platform, and in this case the obvious choice was the Oracle Kubernetes Engine(OKE), although RedHat OpenShift and Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service could also be one of the options.
