EMEA MySQL Partner Newsletter |
This Edition’s Content |

|
|
|
Dear Partners,
As an improvement to our communications, our EMEA team have decided to create a new quarterly EMEA MySQL newsletter.
The intent with is therefore to bring our partner community up to date with the any major changes to the product, events we’ve run (or are running) and any MySQL specific business related items that are relevant/current for us across EMEA.
The MySQL Enterprise Edition has seen increased/rapid improvements in the last few years. In a fast changing world where digital security is key, our development team have focussed effort on increasing MySQL security, transaction speeds, scaling and troubleshooting rogue queries.
Across EMEA, partners have the biggest DB market share of MySQL community users which should act as prime opportunity for conversion to our commercial MySQL Enterprise Edition. Other opportunities lie with companies / orgs looking to reduce costs and use Open source for new / remodelled applications – particularly in the central government, gaming and cashless banking sectors.
As we approach the end of FY19, I would like to thank you personally for your continued partnership and business with Oracle MySQL. We look forward to working with you again in FY20 and for any help in leveraging MySQL commercial opportunities , please feel free to contact myself or the team – Archie, Neville and Laszlo.
Cheers,
David G.
P.S. Keep pushing for closing OPPORTUNITIES in FY19 and beware of the Deal desk Q4FY19 cut-off dates.

First Partner Boot Camp in Italy! |
The EMEA Alliances and Channel Team, together with our Value Added Distributor Computer Gross and the help of the Italian sales team, organized the first Italian Partner Boot Camp in Milan, Italy.
The Boot Camp ran for 3 days in the Computer Gross offices with 13 participants from 9 partners. The objective of the event was to give our top Value Added Resellers and System Integrators an in-depth session on the latest version of MySQL in order for them to get specialized on the product and be able to add value to their customers and prospects.
The course was given by Marco Carlessi, Senior Sales Consultant based in Milan. Marco did a sterling job of positioning MySQL in the DB world and explaining the advantages for partners in selling MySQL before diving into the features of MySQL 8.0.
The venue was ideal in terms of facilities and access and the participants were delighted with this first boot camp to be held in Italian in Italy. Hopefully this will be the first of many!
Thanks again to all involved and for further details of future bootcamp’s, please contact your local MySQL Channel Manager. |

UK Government Department Selects MySQL for National Infrastructure Mission-Critical Applications
The move towards open source initiatives, agile implementation methods and digital first approaches is now gathering pace within government organizations. Many are now mandated to consider open source for all technology refreshes and new projects.
Selecting MySQL as the preferred open source database provides departments with real cost savings, which in turn helps provide better value and allows reinvestment of savings into other key strategic areas.
The UK MySQL channel team began engagement three years ago, the initial knowledge sharing sessions explored how and where MySQL could be deployed. During this time, many small applications have moved to MySQL quite successfully, establishing MySQL credentials. As a result, in October 2017, The UK MySQL team were invited to discuss how MySQL could be deployed in a major national project.
The MySQL team had many technical meetings to discuss architectural considerations for this high availability 24/7 setup across multiple public cloud availability zones. The team also engaged with a strategic partner who had existing contractual frameworks in place worth more than $90m annually. Apart from being able to procure MySQL Enterprise Edition via the partner, they also provided valuable influence in growing licenses numbers to over 120 MySQL Enterprise edition subscriptions that other would have taken much longer without their involvement.
With our partner, we are now continuing to explore other opportunities within this organization and build on the successes so far.
Our MySQL team are always available to support partners and customers embarking on new projects both big and small. For further help and support, please contact any of our MySQL Channel Managers. |

The MySQL Theme of the Month: MySQL Support Service Organizations choose to purchase technical support from software vendors for various reasons, many seeing it as an insurance policy. Indeed, much as they would not drive a car without insurance, IT managers consider it good practice to be able to call on the company behind the software they are using should they encounter any issue. At the same time, Oracle Premier Support for MySQL offers benefits far beyond "insurance" -- value you can leverage even if you never experience problems.
