Oracle Completes IRAP Assessment at PROTECTED Level for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

With IRAP assessment public sector entities can use Oracle’s scalable and highly secure cloud infrastructure to run key applications

First IRAP assessed VMware Cloud Solution to enable rapid migration to the cloud

CANBERRA, Australia7 July 2021

Oracle today announced that  Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has been independently assessed by an Information Security Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) assessor against the Information Security Manual (ISM) PROTECTED controls.

The assessment covers Oracle’s Sydney and Melbourne Cloud regions and includes 37 OCI services which will help public sector customers, quickly, easily and cost effectively move to the cloud to gain more value from their data and drive better outcomes for citizens.

The latest IRAP assessment is part of Oracle’s continuing momentum in the federal government market and follows the November 2020 assessment at PROTECTED level of key Oracle SaaS applications including Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP and Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM.

Assessment at PROTECTED level provides assurance to customers that Oracle has the appropriate security controls in place for the processing, storage and transmission of information classified up to and including the level of PROTECTED.

“Oracle is working very closely with the public sector in Australia to enable their transformation. This assessment is an important step in meeting the growing demands and compliance requirements of our Australian public sector customers,” said Cherie Ryan, vice president and regional managing director ANZ, Oracle. “Public sector customers can now confidently unlock the benefits of a true cloud native SaaS, PaaS and IaaS provider in a secure cloud hosted on Australian shores.”

Among the 37 services available is Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, which gives government customers a fully dedicated VMware environment and administrative control to migrate or extend their existing VMware solutions. At present no other major cloud infrastructure provider has announced similar services assessed against PROTECTED level controls for their Australian data centers.

“For regulated workloads moving to the cloud has not always been an easy process even when cloud services have been readily available. For many public sector organisations, moving large databases containing critical data is seen as simply too risky. Our Oracle Cloud VMware Solution makes it easier and safer for them to move data to the cloud – and back, without having to rewrite applications,” said Ryan.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Oracle’s approach to cloud computing is based on the idea that the cloud should be engineered to support every application, rather than re-engineering applications to work with the cloud. Oracle’s cloud infrastructure makes it easier to migrate critical enterprise applications to OCI and run them better than on-premises, and offers all the services developers need to build and run cloud-native applications. OCI simplifies management and security with autonomous services such as the world’s only Oracle Autonomous Database and built-in, always-on security. OCI offers the most complete support for hybrid cloud strategies, including VMware environments and even bringing the cloud to a customers’ own data center or to the edge. Customers can use OCI services in the Oracle public cloud, in their own data center, or anywhere in between, opening up the benefits of the cloud to more companies. It also offers technologies to simplify integration and data movement across multi-cloud organizations. In addition, OCI offers the best performance at significantly lower costs.
