OCI’s distributed cloud delivers the cloud to where customers need it with public cloud, dedicated cloud, hybrid cloud, and multicloud options. For customers that need cloud services in specific locations, with specific controls, or even from different clouds, OCI’s distributed cloud can bring the benefits of the cloud to workloads beyond the traditional boundaries of other cloud providers.
The customers who leverage best-of-breed cloud services to deliver business agility while optimizing cost end up winning. OCI’s multicloud services are designed so customers can use the full capabilities of OCI’s services in other clouds. This allows customers to move faster with more agility, using the services and clouds that are best for the job, and to use resources without moving or rearchitecting them.
Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer brings the full functionality and scalability of Oracle Database on Exadata infrastructure to customer data centers, managed as a service via Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Customers can use OCI hybrid cloud solutions, such as Oracle Roving Edge Infrastructure and Oracle Compute Cloud@Customer, and also connect to and manage on-premises resources with OCI management, integration, identity, and analytics services.
Oracle Cloud is available globally from 41 cloud regions for commercial and government customers in 22 countries. We continue to add cloud regions rapidly, with a goal to provide 2 geographically distributed cloud regions in every country we operate in. We currently have at least 2 regions in 10 countries and the European Union. OCI has announced the locations of 7 additional commercial regions and 2 sovereign cloud regions for the EU.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Dedicated Region brings a complete and independent cloud region—and all of OCI’s more than 100 cloud services—to a customer’s data center. Dedicated Region is an integrated hardware and software solution that’s managed and supported by OCI. For customers with location-specific low-latency and performance needs, or for those in regulated industries with heightened data residency requirements, Dedicated Region can provide a dedicated cloud platform to modernize and digitalize your business.
We’ve designed OCI according to four tenets, each focused on making the experience simpler and better for customers.
In addition, OCI is the only major provider that offers financially backed performance SLAs for networking, block storage, and storage within compute instances.
Each Oracle Cloud region supports high availability architectures using fault domains to address the most common issues at a metropolitan scale, in a manner similar to Availability Zones offered by other cloud providers. Each fault domain represents a virtual data center with power and network redundancy at the physical level. Software deployment in a fault domain is staggered to minimize the blast radius and enables customers to avoid single points of failure (SPOFs) in resource deployment, ensuring application availability.
For applications with higher availability needs, workloads can add disaster recovery capabilities for protection in case an entire data center becomes unavailable (extreme reliability architecture). In this case, OCI recommends replication across dual Oracle Cloud regions to enable geographic disaster recovery. Oracle Cloud regions are located in different cities to provide geographical distance and operate in different power grids, network infrastructure, and flood plains, offering resiliency against data center failures and natural disasters.
As of October 2022, OCI has 41 cloud regions around the world, with at least 2 regions in 10 countries and the EU and a plan to deploy at least 2 regions in each country for customers with strict data residency regulations.
OCI offers more than 100 cloud services, with many more on their way. Our cloud services are open, and they embrace industry standards such as Kubernetes, CloudEvents, and Terraform so that customers can enjoy portability, lower overhead, and lower costs. We built our cloud to deliver the performance and scalability customers need to run the most demanding enterprise workloads and modern cloud native applications. For example, we uniquely offer Oracle Autonomous Database—which is optimized for transaction processing, data warehousing, or JSON, with automatic tuning, scaling, and patching—for both existing and new applications.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides superior cloud services for many workloads and optimizes multicloud operations, especially with Microsoft Azure. Oracle and Microsoft have a strategic partnership that enables joint customers to run workloads across the two clouds.
This partnership provides a low-latency, cross-cloud interconnect between OCI and Azure in 12 regions, federated identity for joint customers to deploy applications across both clouds, and a collaborative support model.
Customers can run full stack applications in a multicloud configuration while maintaining high-performance connectivity without requiring rearchitecture. They can also migrate existing applications or develop cloud native applications that use a mix of OCI and Azure services.
Oracle Cloud regions deliver a sustainable computing platform that is efficient and renewable. Our data centers enable higher utilization rates than on-premises systems. We leverage state-of-the-art intelligent energy management and cooling techniques while providing elastic computing platforms that grow dynamically as needed, eliminating excess capacity builds for future demands.
Oracle’s goal is to achieve 100% renewable energy use in all its OCI data centers by 2025.
By having full visibility and control over the hardware at the end of its useful life in Oracle Cloud, Oracle is also able to repurpose equipment more effectively, harvest spare parts, and maximize the recycling of materials.
Oracle is committed to helping customers operate globally in a fast-changing business environment and to address the challenges of an ever more complex regulatory environment. Oracle Cloud regions are regularly assessed as part of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s compliance programs. We meet more than 80 global, regional, and industry standards including SOC, PCI DSS, HIPAA, HITRUST, and GDPR.
Oracle is also taking advantage of our own infrastructure innovation with Oracle Cloud Applications. For the first time, customers can run applications they migrate, applications they build, and a broad range of horizontal and industry SaaS all out of the same cloud. Oracle Cloud regions can not only run customer workloads but also offer enterprise SaaS such as Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Oracle Human Capital Management, and Oracle Supply Chain Planning, providing unmatched speed, security, and continuity.
For enterprises that want to expand in multiple geographies without constraints, OCI provides a consistent experience in every region, both in terms of performance and cost. Customers can stay within their original budget and forecast cloud spending accurately, regardless of where they deploy applications. In addition, OCI provides a series of controls for you to limit resource access, manage your budget, tune down underused resources, and forecast your spending.
Oracle Cloud data centers incorporate physical security controls (PDF) such as physical access, alarms, CCTV monitoring, 24/7 onsite guards, and more.
Our data centers align with Uptime Institute and Telecommunications Industry Association ANSI/TIA-942-A Tier 3 or Tier 4 standards and follow an N+2 redundancy methodology for critical equipment operation. Data centers use redundant power sources and maintain generator backups in case of widespread electrical outage.
Enables reliable, private data movement between regions for disaster protection, data processing, and data locality.
Temperature and humidity are controlled to align with industry standards, enabling optimal performance. Server rooms are equipped with fire-suppression systems to protect Oracle’s equipment.
Data center sites undergo a risk evaluation that considers environmental threats, power availability and stability, vendor reputation and history, neighboring facility functions (for example, high-risk manufacturing or high-threat targets), and geopolitical considerations, among other criteria.
