    When researchers get enrolled in our Cloud Starter Awards program, they get a grant for $1,000, which they can apply to a variety of technology offerings and products and services. But we also provide even more value via benefits like additional cloud storage, mentorship, migration support, marketing assistance and introductions to peers.

  • How long will I benefit from the program?

    It varies by the benefit, but there’s a good chance that if you’re in the program, we’ll find a way to keep offering you some way to get extremely discounted technology access, even beyond any expiration” date.

  • How can you help me “beyond” just technology?

    We have a global technical team dedicated to supporting our researchers, both as they onboard, and as they scale, with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. We’ll also help connect you with other scientists, so you can collaborate.

  • Why would I want Oracle Cloud, versus some other cloud provider?

    Other cloud providers may grant you credits towards the cloud, but that’s often where they leave it. We partner up to take you beyond the tech—and walk step-by-step with you along the entire research journey. Ours is truly a white glove effort.

  • Is my research data safe with you?

    Oracle is a pre-eminent technology vendor; our cloud is exceptional and top-of-category. We’re a company which has been around for 40+ years – and we prioritize data management and security. It’s something we’re known for.

  • I’m technically a student, not a researcher, and I don’t seem to fit with your program. Are there other options for me?

    Students who are looking for hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud are invited to try Oracle Cloud for free.

    Student entrepreneurs in the startup stage are welcome to enroll their startups in the Oracle for Startups program to take advantage of free cloud credits, deep discounts, and access to Oracle’s network of resources.

  • What are Oracle for Research Cloud Starter Awards?

    Oracle for Research Cloud Starter Awards grant qualified researchers a $1,000 credit towards their choice of cloud storage, database and service offerings, like (but not limited to):

    • Archive, object, file, and flex storage
    • GPUs and virtual GPUs (vGPUs)
    • Flexible compute shapes
    • Arm-based Ampere A1 cores
    • Oracle Autonomous Databases for data warehousing, JSON, transaction processing, or app development

    In being granted this $1,000 credit, researchers can get started quickly in hosting, processing, analyzing, and collaborating around their research data on Oracle Cloud.

    Our Oracle for Research Project Award program opens the door to greater financial funding and a deeper relationship with broader, hands-on support. Our team will provide hands-on consultations with solutions architects, introductions to peers for collaborative opportunities, assistance in co-authoring/publishing papers, and help in sharing your discoveries to a broad audience.

  • What happens after I apply for an Oracle for Research Project Awards?

    Typically, our process usually works like this:

    • You apply here.
    • Once we receive your information, we will determine if your proposal is a good fit for our program
    • If approved, we’ll send you the signup instructions for your special Oracle Cloud account
    • Additional steps may be needed
    • Notification of your cloud tenancy credentials will be sent to an approved email address

  • How many cloud credits will I be granted via Oracle for Research Cloud Starter Awards?

    The Cloud Starter program currently grants qualified researchers $1,000 to invest in Oracle Cloud storage solutions, services and programs of their choosing.

    For those that need additional cloud credits or resources, we offer another program, called the Oracle for Research Project Award. Recipients receive hands-on consultations with our solutions architects, get introduced to peers for collaborative opportunities, receive assistance in coauthoring/publishing papers, and, have their discoveries amplified to a broad audience. There are additional qualifications to get accepted into this program, including the viability of the data, overall project scope, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure workload size.

    Cloud credits granted by Oracle for Research may be used only to power workloads directly associated with approved research projects.

  • What if I need more support than the $1,000 granted by the Oracle for Research Cloud Starter Awards?

    We offer a more advanced initiative for researchers, called the Oracle for Research Project Award program, where we fully support you, end-to-end, along every stage of the research process. Members receive additional computational resources like data storage, compute, and networking, but it goes beyond just the tech.

    Our team provides hands-on consultations and workshops with our solutions architects, introduces you to peers for collaborative opportunities, assists in coauthoring and publishing papers, and generates awareness for your discoveries by amplifying them to a broad audience.

    We give you your own, hands-on customer service representative.

    And, for select researchers, we also provide fellowships and build collaborative computational research centers.

    Oracle for Research’s cloud offerings work with many different programming languages. Whether your organization has built your data environment in R, Python, C, Java or Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOs, etc), we can bridge the gaps—without you yourself needing to personally learn complex languages.

  • Will you help me with more than just cloud apps and cloud infrastructure? Like, will you help me with things like finding research grants?

    Believe it or not, yes. We want to be a true partner in every way, and we assist our customers in ways they might not expect. Part of that process is making sure researchers get the grants for the cloud storage and processing power you need to bring your big ideas to life. We’ll also help you with marketing, and awareness, when it comes to your research. We encourage you to apply to the Oracle for Research Project Awards program if you are interested in end-to-end support.

    We want to make sure our researchers have the most optimal setup possible, o we’ve set up easy-to-use diagnostic tools to right-size their cloud environments.

  • What do I do if I have any technology problems and need tech support?

    Participants can use their assigned customer support identifier (CSI) to file support requests at https://support.oracle.com.

  • Do you provide artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions?

    Yes: from autonomous databases to analytics with out-of-the-box, built-in machine learning and AI capabilities, we do offer next-generation offerings.

  • I like my research environment to run in Linux, but CentOS is sunsetting. What can I do?

    Many of our scientists prefer open source or open data options for their research. In light of Red Hat’s sunsetting of CentOS, we’re finding an increase in customers migrating over to Oracle’s Linux platform. It may be a viable option for you.

  • Does Oracle for Research and its programs/products do anything to help me with data reproducibility?

    Yes. When we build for researchers, we always think about how we can find ways to help them analyze, automate, publish, standardize, and track their scientific data in a reproducible way. Security and consistency are our cornerstones

  • Can I cloudburst with Oracle Cloud?

    Yes, you can cloudburst with Oracle Cloud! When you have so much research data that it overclocks your IT systems, Oracle Cloud can help scale the workloads on an on-demand basis. Cloudbursting spreads the load to the public cloud, creating a hybrid cloud.

  • What kind of technologies does Oracle Cloud work with?

    We partner with a variety of technology and software vendors and we try to give as much choice as possible.
