Expand Smart Data Preparation to Incorporate Customer-Specific Reference Data

Why Are We Building This?
Data preparation always takes more time than you think it will, and you can’t get to the analysis and synthesis phase until you prepare the data. Smart data preparation augments, enhances, heals, and creates richer data that can lead to improved business insights and sharper understanding. Tailoring the prep environment with organization-specific context connects consumers with data in the context of their business.

We will ensure integrated data preparation so that organizations can get higher quality data to use for their analysis.

What is smart data preparation?

Smart data preparation is a set of functions that leverage a vast amount of linked, open source reference knowledge to discover a wide range of semantic types. It provides a significant number of demographic and geographic enrichments including population data, latitude and longitude, pattern recognition (such as telephone and credit card numbers), and even gender identification based on an individual’s given name.

Customer-specific data also needs this type of intelligent service to enable better preparation and enrichment. We plan to bring the following intelligent services to the smart data preparation capabilities of Oracle Analytics:

  • Introduce customer-specific reference data to the knowledge base. Customer-defined categories can be stored and will be identified on data load. For example: customer location can be linked to a sales region, or product categories can be defined for product codes. The system will then provide related enrichment recommendations for analysts to enrich their datasets with business-specific–related data.
  • Share global synonyms. A shared capability with intelligent search and augmented data preparation lets you define common global synonyms. For example: “avg” can mean “average” and “kg” can mean “kilograms.”
  • Enable data healing. Oracle Analytics will deliver more powerful and automated ways to repair data by leveraging the power of the data prep process. The system will automatically inform users of invalid data (inconsistent formats, possible misspellings) based on reference knowledge and propose way(s) to improve the data with single-click recommendations.

How does this benefit you, the customer?

With expanded and augmented data preparation capabilities, customers will benefit from a richer, faster data analysis process. Smart recommendations can be used to improve and enhance data based on automatic data profiling and inclusion of custom-reference data to enrich data sources. These enriched data sources can be easily shared with others, giving everyone in your organization access to better data for better analysis.
