  • What is happening and when?

Oracle originally announced retirement of Dyn/Zenedge services on June 24, 2019 with a targeted retirement date of May 31, 2020.

The targeted retirement date for select Dyn/Zenedge services (i.e. purchased via written order and not online shopping cart) has been extended as noted in the table below. This supersedes the previous target retirement date that was originally announced on June 24, 2019.

    Legacy Product

    New Target Retirement Date
    Dyn Managed DNS May 31, 2020 May 31, 2023

Bulk Hosting May 31, 2020 Retired
TLD (Top Level Domain) May 31, 2020 Retired
Internet Intelligence Not applicable August 31, 2021

The Remote Access service is still an exception to this notice. This service will remain a standalone offering within Oracle and does not require any action at this time. Please contact support@dyn.com with any questions regarding Remote Access.

  • I’m an existing Managed DNS, Email or WAF customer, what do I need to do?

You can continue to leverage your existing Dyn/Zenedge services until the applicable new target date without any further action on your part. To continue receiving services from Oracle beyond the service retirement date, you will need to migrate your Dyn/Zenedge services to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure following the instructions here and locate your specific service(s) you need to migrate to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

If you’re a Dyn Managed DNS customer with basic DNS services you can follow the instructions in the link above to migrate your services to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure at any time prior to the service retirement date.

If you’re a Dyn Managed DNS advanced services customer (i.e., leveraging traffic director or traffic manager features) and some minimal downtime is acceptable, you can follow the instructions in the link above to migrate your services to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure or contact migrations@dyn.com for more details on migrating your services to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

If you are not able to migrate prior to your next contract renewal, we will extend your legacy Dyn/Zenedge service subscription at your renewal date as per the term of your contract (or as otherwise communicated to you) until the applicable new target retirement date. Please ensure that your transition to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is complete on or before the applicable new target retirement date, as services will no longer be available after that date. If you have questions, please send an email to migrations@dyn.com.

  • I’m an existing TLD, Bulk Hosting, or DDoS customer, what do I need to do?

You can continue to leverage your existing Dyn services until the new target retirement date without any further action on your part. If you have questions, please send an email to customersuccess@dyn.com.

  • Are the pricing terms on my existing contract for Dyn and/or Zenedge services changing with the new EOL date announcement?

No. Your existing contract for Dyn or Zenedge services will continue to be in effect and will govern your use of the services.

  • I’m a Dyn Managed DNS customer, why should I move to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure?

There are many benefits in migrating and utilizing your DNS services through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, which may include:

    • Significantly reduced cost for service compared to Dyn’s legacy Enterprise DNS service:
      • List of $0.85 per 1M queries for straight DNS
      • List of $4.00 per 1M queries for Traffic Management (Note that if availability monitoring of endpoints is required, then Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Health Check (OHC) is also needed at a charge of $0.30 per endpoint monitored per month)
      • No additional charges for number of zones and policies
      • No overage charge premiums. Billing is typically based on consumption.
    • Access to features not available in Managed DNS/Traffic Director
      • IP Prefix and ASN Steering
      • Modern API with multi-language SDK/CLI (Java, Go, Python, Ruby)
      • Pre-made Terraform templates to ease automation and orchestration
      • Access to full IaaS portfolio from a single console, API, and Identity system
    • Access to platform features including:
      • Resource Tagging, audit logging, integrated billing and resource management, SAML and federated authentication, fine grain access and authorization controls, resource search, cross service telemetry and logging
  • How much will my DNS services cost in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure?

DNS queries cost $0.85 per 1 million queries. You can use the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure cost estimator to help you get an idea of how much you may save by migrating to the OCI DNS service. A quick illustrative example to use as a reference is below. Your actual queries per month (QPM) and costs/fees may not follow this example. If you still have questions about cost, contact migrations@dyn.com.

    Dyn Contract in Queries
    per Second (QPS)
    Converted to QPM
    Estimated Cost
    1 2.5M $2.13 USD
    10 25.0M $21.25 USD
    100 250.0M $212.50 USD

For Traffic Manager or Traffic Director, the price is $4.00 per 1 million queries per zone:

    Dyn Contract in Queries
    per Second (QPS)
    Converted to QPM
    Estimated Cost
    1 2.5M $10 USD

If your service is not being offered in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, then you will need to move to another provider by the applicable new target retirement date.
