  • What is happening and when?

Please be reminded that Dyn was acquired by Oracle in 2016. Press release can be found here.

Since the acquisition (and subsequent acquisition of Zenedge) the engineering teams have been working diligently to integrate Dyn’s legacy core products and network into the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) platform as native services. Enterprises can now leverage the best-inclass DNS, Web Application Security, and Email Delivery services within OCI and extend their applications across a comprehensive platform to build, scale, and operate their cloud infrastructure. As a result, Dyn legacy Enterprise services (i.e. purchased via written order and not online shopping cart) are targeted to be retired on May 31, 2020 with the exception of Internet Intelligence.

Internet Intelligence is an exception to this notice. Internet Intelligence will remain a standalone offering within Oracle and does not require any action at this time. Please contact Kevin Abood (kevin.abood@oracle.com) with any questions regarding Internet Intelligence—Network or any other Internet Intelligence offerings.

  • I’m a Managed DNS, Email or WAF customer, what do I need to do?

At your next contract renewal, you will need to migrate your Dyn legacy Enterprise services to OCI following the instructions here and locate your specific service(s) you need to migrate to OCI.

If you’re a Dyn Managed DNS customer and minimal downtime is acceptable, follow the instructions above to migrate your services to OCI.

If you’re a Dyn Managed DNS customer and downtime is not acceptable, please check back with us in August when we are planning on having a migration tool available to help avoid downtime.

If you are not able to migrate at your next contract renewal, we will migrate your legacy Dyn Enterprise service subscription to a month to month basis until May 31, 2020. Please ensure that your transition to OCI is complete on or before May 31, 2020. If you have questions, please send an email to migrations@dyn.com or call (603) 663-0304.

  • I’m a Dyn Managed DNS customer, why should I move to OCI?

While the Dyn legacy Enterprise services will no longer be available, there are many benefits in purchasing your DNS services through OCI, which may include:

    • Significantly reduced cost for service compared to Dyn’s legacy Enterprise DNS service
      • List of $0.85 per 1M queries for straight DNS
      • List of $4.00 per 1M queries for Traffic Management (Note that if availability monitoring of endpoints is required, then OCI Health Check (OHC) is also needed at a charge of $0.30 per endpoint monitored per month)
      • No additional charges for number of zones and policies
      • No overage charge premiums. Billing is typically based on consumption. If you don’t use, you don’t pay
    • Access to features not available in Managed DNS/ Traffic Director
      • IP Prefix and ASN Steering
      • Modern API with multi-language SDK/CLI (Java, Go, Python, Ruby)
      • Pre-made Terraform templates to ease automation and orchestration
      • Access to full IaaS portfolio from a single console, API, and Identity system
    • Access to platform features including:
      • Resource Tagging, audit logging, integrated billing and resource management, SAML and federated authentication, fine grain access and authorization controls, resource search, cross service telemetry and logging
  • How much will my DNS services cost in OCI?

DNS queries cost $0.85 per 1 million queries. You can use the OCI cost estimator to help you get an idea of how much you may save by migrating to the OCI DNS service. A quick illustrative example to use as a reference is below. Your actual queries per month (QPM) and costs/fees may not follow this example. If you still have questions about cost, contact migrations@dyn.com.

    Dyn Contract in Queries
    per Second (QPS)
    Converted to QPM
    Estimated Cost
    1 2.5M $2.13 USD
    10 25.0M $21.25 USD
    1000 250.0M $212.50 USD

For Traffic Manager or Traffic Director, the price is $4.00 per 1 million queries per zone:

    Dyn Contract in Queries

    Converted to QPM
    Estimated Cost

  • I’m a Dyn Internet Intelligence customer, what do I need to do?

There is nothing you need to do at this time as Internet Intelligence will continue to be offered from Oracle.

  • I can’t find information in this FAQ regarding my service or my service isn’t being offered in OCI. What does that mean?

If your service is not being offered in OCI, then you will need to move to another provider by May 31, 2020. You will be able to continue to use your Dyn legacy Enterprise service until this date, at which time the service will be turned off. Contractual renewals will convert to month to month at time of renewal.

  • Can I migrate before my contract ends?

If you’ve migrated to OCI prior to your renewal date, we will allow you to cancel the remaining term on your existing Dyn contract. Otherwise, the existing terms and conditions of your contract remain in place until your renewal date. At that time, your contract will move to month to month until you’ve migrated or May 31, 2020 when service will be turned off. If your contract is currently set to expire after May 31, 2020, it will cancel automatically on May 31, 2020.

  • If I’ve migrated my services to OCI or I’ve decided not to migrate to OCI at renewal or during my month to month grace period post renewal, what do I need to do?

Please send an email to customersuccess@dyn.com so we can cancel your accounts, including billing, and process any applicable refunds.

  • Once I move my services to OCI, will there be a change in the way I access customer support?
