Biesse Supports International Business Growth by Optimizing IT Infrastructure on Oracle

The Biesse Group is a leading international designer and manufacturer of machines for processing wood, glass, stone, plastic, and metal. Through its 37 subsidiaries and 300 resellers and agents, the company delivers its products globally. In the past few years, the group has experienced significant business growth in terms of revenue, workforce, and expansion into new markets, as demonstrated by its 2016 results: revenue of $662 million (+19.1% as compared to 2015), net profit of $33.8 million (+39.9%), and net positive cashflow of $5 million.

Biesse Group’s business growth created the need for a more powerful IT infrastructure to manage increasing activity and growing amounts of data throughout all business processes.

  • Achieved higher performance for batch processing jobs—for example printing order confirmations for woodworking machines—by deploying Oracle SuperCluster M7 and Oracle Exadata Database Machine, leading to savings comparable by 20 full-time equivalents (FTEs)
  • Introduced a disaster recovery solution by deploying two SPARC T7-1 servers and one Oracle ZFS Storage ZS3-2 appliance in a separate datacenter—ensuring continuity of industrial machine business operations by using Oracle Real Application Clusters and Oracle Active Data Guard to replicate all data from the production site and provide instant failover in case of emergency
  • Boosted business growth by eliminating disk availability and storage issues with a powerful IT hardware solution
  • Ensured 24/7 availability of critical IT systems used by employees throughout the group to support Biesse’s industrial machinery business
  • Enhanced infrastructure scalability by migrating hardware platform to Oracle Solaris, also ensuring secure and compliant deployment of further Oracle E-Business Suite modules and future applications
  • Optimized IT support during and after migration by using Oracle Platinum Services and MyOracle Support, and minimized service request response times thanks to a single-vendor solution for hardware and software

After a thorough testing and selection process we decided to adopt a technology platform from Oracle due to its high performance and ability to support our industrial machinery business growth. In addition, having a single vendor across the stack has enabled us to deploy a disaster recovery solution to ensure the continuity of our operations.
