Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Enhances Access Control and Delivers Seamless User Experience with Oracle PaaS

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction (DHIC) is one of Korea’s largest engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors. It offers a wide range of services—from manufacturing castings and forgings to building desalination facilities and power plants—to customers via 15 overseas subsidiaries and 25 offices. DHIC aims to maintain its top-tier position by focusing on digital transformation and smart factory construction.

DHIC was already using Oracle Access Manager and Microsoft Active Directory to manage employee user IDs and access to multiple applications—but not for external partner users. With increased user demand to access business systems via its mobile application, DHIC needed a flexible identity and access management (IAM) solution to streamline authentication for internal and external users.
Business Challenge
  • Improve user convenience by simplifying the process to manage 8,000 internal employees and 4,000 external partner users to access different mobile applications, such as construction job orders and approvals and learning center
  • Respond faster to increased user demand for the mobile application by minimizing the complexity and operational burden to develop and deploy a new mobile application, such as smart factory
  • Ensure the security of sensitive business information, such as quality inspection reports for building power plants, by gaining the ability to easily authorize or shut off user access to applications
  • Strengthened security control for confidential business information, such as power plants construction reports, by adopting Oracle Identity Cloud Service to define role-based authorization and authentication policies and monitor violations from partner users in downloading and using the mobile application
  • Rolled out over 12 mobile applications to users in just 1 year by leveraging custom APIs and pre-built mobile services from Oracle Mobile Cloud Service to quickly create and deploy new mobile applications without writing a single line of code
  • Delivered a seamless user experience by integrating existing user credentials in Oracle Access Manager and Microsoft Active Directory with the external user IAM system built on Oracle Application Container Cloud Service via Oracle SOA Cloud Service
  • Met the increased demand of mobile users and services, such as construction job orders and approvals, by enabling a large number of internal and external users to access the mobile application without failures, thanks to the proven scalability of Oracle Mobile Cloud Service
  • Supported business transformation and rapid growth by providing a secure, enterprise mobility environment with Oracle Identity Cloud Service and Oracle Mobile Cloud Service and empowering employees and partner users to seamlessly collaborate on construction projects

After reviewing Gartner Magic Quadrant and conducting Proof of Concept (PoC), we selected Oracle over Microsoft and IBM because of its competitive pricing, reliability, integration capability with the legacy systems, and outstanding technical support.

— Hee Moon Yang, Senior Manager, Process Innovation Team, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction

DHIC selected a leader group to evaluate various vendors, including Oracle, Microsoft, IBM, five global IT companies, and three domestic companies. It then introduced Oracle Mobile Cloud Service to build a standard mobile platform and deployed Oracle Identity Cloud Service to centralize authentication and access control service for internal and external users one year afterwards. DHIC went live smoothly with the new platform.
