By delivering high-performance in a system that makes it easy to view, import, manipulate, and share data, Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service helped us increase staff participation in our business processes, such as financial planning and forecasting.

— Alexandre Soria, Financial Director, Faculdade Sumaré

The Instituto Sumaré de Educação Superior created the school Faculdade Sumaré in 2000 with the goal of using technology innovation to improve the delivery of affordable higher education to Brazilians. The learning institution focuses on educating future leaders with a sense of social justice and critical thinking, in agreement with the Lei de Diretrizes e Bases, a set of guidelines created by the federal government to regulate education in the country according to principles prescribed in the country’s constitution. Faculdade Sumaré has eight campuses in São Paulo, serving more than 25,000 students. It plans to expand to 16 additional campuses across Brazil.

Challenges
  • Increase operational efficiency and decision-making by streamlining financial planning and forecasting processes for the organization’s eight campuses
  • Support expansion plans that involve another 16 campuses across Brazil
  • Reduce total cost of ownership by minimizing power and cooling costs, and labor-intensive implementation processes
  • Enable users to access the company’s financial planning and budgeting environment anytime and from anywhere to eliminate security risks associated with carrying data off-site or accessing on-premises systems remotely
Results
  • Implemented Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service, moving from an on-premises solution to the cloud—dramatically improving accuracy and reliability of financial planning and forecasting processes
  • Enabled a detailed view of monthly fiscal developments, expanding staff participation in managing the organization’s finances by developing easy-to-use interfaces and dashboards
  • Supported the institution’s rapid growth and plans to open 16 additional campuses and reach 40,000 students by 2019 by choosing a cloud environment that delivers extreme performance and scalability and has usage-based pricing that eliminates the need for upfront investment
  • Mitigated risk of unauthorized access to sensitive financial data by empowering staff to securely access up-to-the-minute financial data from anywhere and at any time instead of carrying information off site on external drives or paper files
  • Deployed an out-of-the-box solution that included every functionality Faculdade Sumaré administrators needed—eliminating potential costs and complexity associated with customization, ensuring faster time to value, and enabling the organization to introduce more standardized and robust business practices
  • Consolidated data and expanded visibility across the institution’s eight campuses throughout the city of São Paulo to enable a more timely and accurate view of the organization’s financial position
  • Avoided the heavy burden on IT staff needed to maintain an on-premises planning and budgeting system, preventing investment in hardware infrastructure and testing, and time-consuming patching and upgrades—thanks to a cloud solution

We chose Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service because it was the solution that most closely aligned with our needs. Specifically, it didn’t require investments in infrastructure or customization. We were looking for a quick and trouble-free migration, and we found it in Oracle.

— Alexandre Soria, Financial Director, Faculdade Sumaré

Execution

After determining a schedule and budget for the Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service deployment, Faculdade Sumaré’s IT staff met regularly throughout the implementation to track its development and ensure that the solution would fulfill all prerequisites. The migration was successful, satisfying all requirements.

“We worked with Oracle Platinum Partner CIS Corporate—which won a competitive bid involving three vendors—to restructure our on-premises solutions and move it to the cloud. Together, we established a calendar for the implementation process, and I’m pleased to say all of our goals were met,” Soria said.
