For Booster Fuels Cofounder and CEO Frank Mycroft, the inspiration for his company is those working parents who need to pick up kids from daycare or get the soccer carpool to practice—and don’t need one more errand on their list.
“I want to help millions of people never have to stop for gas," Mycroft says. Instead, customers use an app to request fuel, and Booster's purple mini-tankers deliver fuel to their cars while they're at work.
By using route-optimizing software and filling multiple vehicles on each stop at office and fleet locations, Booster keeps prices low and has found more sustainable way to deliver gas, reducing its carbon footprint.
People experience Booster once and realize there’s a better way, and it doesn’t have to cost more. You’re free to focus on things that matter.Frank Mycroft, CEO, Booster Fuels
Booster Fuels depends on a custom-built technology stack to run its business. Before sending out its sensor-equipped mini tankers, the company looks at all the vehicles needing fuel, estimates how much gas each will need, and therefore how many vehicles a truck can fill up. Custom-built routing software then determines the best route, down to the quickest entrance and exit from an office parking lot. Booster runs its open source software stack on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
By moving to Oracle Container Engine for Kubernetes, Booster made it possible for an engineer who worked full-time on DevOps and IT management to now spend only 20% of her workday on such tasks, while reducing operating costs. Meanwhile, the IT team kept the freedom to fine-tune the clusters Oracle Cloud manages.
Oracle's true partnership approach and openness was a big competitive differentiator, says Diego Netto, Booster CTO and cofounder. The Booster team trusts Oracle to handle day-to-day ops, Netto says, which lets the Booster IT team “focus on adding value to our business.”
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Using Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Booster needs to allocate only 20 percent of one engineer’s time for all of its DevOps and infrastructure management.
