Irving Materials Refreshes Financial Statements 93% Faster, Reduces IT Complexity, and Gains Rapid Access to New Functionality with Cloud Solution

When we were making a decision about where to go next with our enterprise application environment, it was obvious to us that Oracle is fully committed to cloud ERP. That was a key reason we chose Oracle ERP Cloud.

— Chad Kelley, ‚ÄéController, Irving Materials, Inc.

Irving Materials, Inc. (IMI) is a leading regional supplier of building and construction materials with sales in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee. The company supplies concrete to customers in these six states through four regional operational centers. It also mines stone, sand, and gravel throughout Indiana. Focused on optimizing efficiency and customer service, IMI has contributed to the development of a number of innovations, such as a front-discharge concrete mixer that is now a staple of the industry. IMI has also developed specialty batch mixes that make pouring and finishing concrete quicker and easier.

  • Ensure high availability and performance of the company’s enterprise applications
  • Reduce IT management costs and burden and free internal IT team resources to focus on strategic priorities
  • Enable the company to scale its enterprise application environment and take advantage of new functionality as needed, while avoiding expensive infrastructure investment
  • Gained the ability to refresh financial statements in 2 minutes instead of 30 minutes after migrating from an on-premises platform to Oracle Financials Cloud, allowing the firm to address issues rapidly and close books faster

  • Expanded visibility into financial data with Oracle Hyperion Smart View—including the ability to drill down into data from specific product lines to drive more informed business decisions
  • Eliminated the need for a third-party middleware solution to support reporting, reducing licensing costs and IT complexity—thanks to the embedding of Oracle Essbase solutions within Oracle Financials Cloud and the ability to access both as part of the Oracle Financials Cloud subscription service
  • Streamlined future upgrades to enable the company to take advantage of the latest versions and functionality with a cloud solution
  • Ensured high availability and timely maintenance with the cloud solution, and enabled IMI to focus efforts of internal IT members on priority projects, such as initiatives to boost customer service and optimize operational efficiency

We were very excited about Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning Cloud because it brought consistency to the table. The terminology was very similar to what we knew from Oracle E-Business Suite 11i, making the transition much easier than we anticipated.

— Chad Kelley, ‚ÄéController, Irving Materials, Inc.

Irving Materials had a tight 10-week implementation timeframe, completing the project on time for its June 1 fiscal year deadline.

“Our implementation partner suggested that we migrate only one year of historical data. We chose to do seven years—which was very important to us—and we managed to complete the migration with relative ease. It went a lot smoother than what we had expected,” Kelley said.

The company adopted a train-the-trainer approach, and user adoption was rapid thanks to the intuitive solution.

“Our Oracle success manager was fantastic in following up on any issues that we might encounter. And, Oracle’s technical support team has been tremendously responsive,” Kelley said.
