Business challenges

RD Station, one of Latin America’s largest SaaS companies, was acquired by Brazilian enterprise software giant TOTVS in 2021 in what was the country’s largest private acquisition deal in the software industry to date. With RD Station as Brazil’s leader in marketing automation and TOTVS leading in management systems in 12 different segments, this presented a great opportunity to integrate the companies’ respective client bases.

RD Station uses Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for a low-cost Hadoop data lake system for data processing and storage to consolidate data from internal areas. The data is consolidated and sent to an Oracle Autonomous Database, which is used as a distribution layer for the data.

Personalized large-scale marketing automation requires the collection, storage, handling, and processing of massive volumes of data. At the time of the merger, RD Station, with its 40,000 small and medium-size B2B clients, was operating at data capacity. The planned expansion of both client base and product offerings demanded a step-up in cost-effective, rapidly scalable data storage, as well as fast and secure data processing.

Oracle Autonomous Database with OCI consolidates the huge volumes we need for marketing intelligence.

Why RD Station chose Oracle

By moving the data from RD Station’s internal areas to OCI for storage and compute services to analyze huge amounts of unstructured data in a distributed computing environment.

RD Station highly valued Oracle’s presence in Brazil, which allowed closer interaction with Oracle representatives and lower latency via a local Oracle data center. It gave RD Station increased confidence in service provision, acquisition of new technologies and new tools, and future service updates.

Using OCI for its Hadoop data lake to process the data gave RD Station the flexible data storage, handling capacity, and scalability to meet the expected surge in demand for digital marketing services created by internal RD areas—from attracting qualified visitors to clients’ websites to converting opportunities into leads and closing deals.

Oracle Autonomous Database accelerates data loading into RD Station’s data lake and Hadoop platforms, enabling the company to scale its digital marketing services.

Results

By moving the data from RD Station’s internal areas to OCI for storage and compute services to analyze huge amounts of unstructured data in a distributed computing environment.

The company also uses Oracle Autonomous Database as a centralized data platform for mixed transaction processing and analytical workloads. Native integration tools enabled the company to load data directly via Apache Avro, ORC, and Parquet file formats supported by the Hadoop platform. This greatly simplified the data integration process and sped the loading of massive volumes of data that deliver both operational and strategic analysis for large-scale marketing automation

With Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing, RD Station implemented a data mart layer to deliver information for business intelligence, dashboards, and several operational areas consistently and securely, with zero downtime from self-patching and self-encryption. The auto-scaling autonomous database not only sped up operations but also saved the company money, because RD Station pays only for services it uses.

Also, the self-tuning autonomous database further reduced administrative labor costs and optimized the performance of the data lake, allowing the company to serve its clients faster.

In addition, the low-code Oracle APEX development framework helped RD Station build scalable, secure enterprise apps, which it deployed with rapid time to market.
