San Javier Hospital in Guadalajara, Mexico, has built a reputation as a pioneer in the healthcare industry by constantly innovating its services and specialties, from pediatric and neonatal intensive care to oncology and organ transplants. The hospital plans to increase capacity by 60% with its current expansion project.

Why San Javier Hospital Chose Oracle

San Javier Hospital chose to migrate its critical hospital information system to Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as the best solutions to keep information both secure and always available to healthcare personnel. The hospital also uses Oracle Analytics Cloud and Oracle Autonomous Database to let the management team run analytics faster, without needing to be on site, and to eliminate database administration.

Overall, hospital leaders cite three reasons for choosing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure: stability, compatibility with the existing hospital management system, and cost savings.


By moving the core hospital application to Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing on OCI, San Javier Hospital’s technology infrastructure maintenance costs dropped by 40%. The savings largely came from removing licenses that were no longer needed, thanks to the cloud migration.

In terms of security and stability, the autonomous transaction cloud database eliminates the complexity of operating and securing a high-performance database. This allows the hospital to monitor services, get alerts to any problems, and keep applications running uninterrupted. Compared with its previous on-premises infrastructure, downtime is no longer a problem. Autoscaling in the autonomous database solutions also give the hospital the flexibility to grow at any time without having to consider computing infrastructure limitations.

Implementing Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse provided greater flexibility and speed in loading and extracting data, which has enabled the creation of new indicators for doctors to optimize day-to-day processes in the hospital. In combination with Oracle Analytics Cloud, the facility’s doctors can now see in just seconds reports and highly visual dashboards, which used to take minutes to access.

Using the suite of secure data management and analytics solutions on OCI also helped the hospital continue operating throughout the pandemic, and allowed more people to work remotely. This has fostered a new remote-work culture, which has increased productivity and morale.
