Patching Oracle Data Provider for .NET Core in Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code

Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code utilizes Oracle Data Provider for .NET Core (ODPC). ODPC is generally updated with each tools release, however you may choose to patch ODPC in between releases by following these instructions:

Patching Oracle Data Provider for .NET Core

  • Close Visual Studio Code
  • Download the latest ODP.NET Core nuget package version corresponding to the major version of Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code. For example, if you are using Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code version 19.3.4, then the major version number is 19 and you would obtain the latest version of ODP Core 19, currently version number 2.19.120. (Note that the major version of ODPC nuget packages is the second digit in the version number.)
  • Rename the nuget package file to end in .zip
  • Locate and extract Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.dll from this zip file. (It will be located in under the lib subdirectory of the zip file)
  • In your Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code installation, replace the existing Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.dll with the new one:
  • If you are using Windows and Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code version 19.3.4 you can find it in: %userprofile%\.vscode\extensions\oracle.oracledevtools-19.3.4\out\server
  • If you are using Linux or macOS you can find it in ~/.vscode/extensions/oracle.oracledevtools-19.3.4/out/server
  • (If you are using a different version of Oracle Developer Tools for VS Code look in the .vscode\extensions directory to find the correct location)
  • Restart Visual Studio Code
