Oracle SQL Developer 4.1.3 Release Notes

 Note re: version 4.1.3 - this updates the bundles for  SQL Developer Data Modeler  and Oracle REST Data Services to versions 4.1.3 and 3.0.3. The notes for 4.1.2 apply in terms of new features and bug fixes in Oracle SQL Devleoper.

These release notes contain the following:

New Features

With the release of 4.1.2, over 600 bugs have been fixed. This version also includes some key Enhancements. A full list can be seen here.

  • Easily Copy or Move your 12c pluggable database to an Oracle Database Cloud Service
  • A model tab has been added to instantly view a relational model for that table, with foreign key constraints and related tables diagrammed
  • A new DBA feature, DBA > Database > Status > DB Instance, visual representation of the state of your database with live refreshes (powered by Java FX)
  • Find/Replace Enhancements in the Code Editors and SQL Worksheet
  • Multi-cursor editing in the Code Editors and SQL Worksheet
  • Install, Run or Uninstall Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) Install and Uninstall directly from SQL Developer with simple, easy to follow wizards
  • SSH Tunnel Navigator to define Local and Remote Port Forwards

Before You Start

  • JDK Support
    • Oracle SQL Developer 4.1.2 release requires Java version 1.8 and above. Go here to download the latest version.
    • If SQL Developer cannot find a local JDK, you will be prompted to enter the location path for the JDK. Note that the prompt wants only the folder, not the java.exe.  For example C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_60.
  • Migrating Passwords
    • Passwords are migrated when installing a new version on the same machine. When porting SQL Developer to a new machine, passwords will not be migrated unless you include a password hash.
  • Third Party Extensions
    • Third Party Extensions written for previous versions of SQL Developer will not work in version 4.0 and higher until Third Party vendor updates extension for OSGI framework.
  • Platform Support
    • Oracle SQL Developer 4.1 is available for Windows 7,8,10 and Windows Server 2008/2012, Linux or Mac OS X. (See full Certification)
  • Version Control
    • Subversion and GIT are installed by default with SQL Developer 4.1.2. To install CVS, Perforce and Serena Dimensions, please use Help > Check for Updates.
  • JDBC Drivers
    • The JDBC drivers shipped are Oracle Database 12c To use JDBC Thick Client Driver, you need 12c client or higher.
  • Installing or Upgrading
    • All new releases of SQL Developer require a full installation. Download and unzip the file into an empty folder. Ensure the "Use folder names" checkbox is checked when unzipping the file.
  • TimesTen and In-Memory Database Cache
    • Support for TimesTen In-Memory Database includes support for Oracle In-Memory Database Cache and TimesTen In-Memory Database Release and later.
    • You will not see the TimesTen Connection node unless you have TimesTen installed and configured. More detail on TimesTen can be found on OTN and the TimesTen Release Notes.
  • Data Miner
    • Oracle Data Miner requires Oracle Database 11g Release 2 ( or higher. More information can be found at the Oracle Data Miner page on OTN and the Oracle Data Miner Extension for SQL Developer Release Notes.
  • OLAP
    • The OLAP extension enables you to use the familiar environment of SQL Developer to create and manage dimensional objects in Oracle Database 12c Release 1 ( or higher. Oracle OLAP provides advanced multidimensional analytic capabilities and storage within the database, including excellent query performance, fast incremental data updates, efficient management of summary data, and rich analytic content, such as time series calculations and both additive and nonadditive aggregations.


  • Production Releases - you are supported by Oracle Support under your current database Support license for SQL Developer production releases. Log SQL Developer bugs and issues using My Oracle Support for the product.
