Bringing our mission-critical financial processes onto Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has provided great benefits. We have seen speedy data recovery, in just 2 hours as compared to 24 hours before. Data is the core of our business, and we are confident in entrusting our data security to Oracle.

Business challenges

Minor Hotels is an international hotel owner, operator, and investor with 535 hotels in 55 countries across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Ocean, Europe, and South America.

As part of its digital transformation strategy, Minor Hotels decided to move Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Hyperion, and Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). It was challenged by the maintenance and cost of the company’s existing IBM managed services environment. Minor Hotels was also looking to improve its current business continuity strategy to meet GDPR requirements and reduce its recover point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) of 24 hours.

Why Minor Hotels Chose Oracle

Minor Hotels depends on Oracle E-Business Suite for mission-critical financials, purchasing, and procurement. In a highly competitive industry, it is moving to the cloud to take better advantage of rapid change and growth. Minor Hotels chose Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, as other providers that the company considered did not offer database platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure.

Results

Minor Hotels successfully deployed its mission-critical applications on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in late 2019. Production deployment of E-Business Suite is running in Oracle’s Tokyo cloud region, with the Seoul region as a secondary site. Hyperion and OBIEE are running in Oracle’s Seoul cloud region, with the Tokyo region as a secondary site.

Minor Hotels improved business continuity RTO and RPO from 24 hours to 2 hours and increased automation with OCI and Oracle Data Guard. OCI allowed Minor Hotels to comply with GDPR compliance for business continuity strategy and data security.

It achieved greater operational efficiency through unique services such as E-Business Suite Cloud Manager and Oracle Resource Manager automation, and obtained better performance and experience through Oracle Database Cloud Services on bare metal. Minor Hotels also reduced costs and increased flexibility through Oracle Universal Cloud Credits and license mobility.
