Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer capabilities

Self-contained cloud region

Oracle delivers all its public cloud services on-premises in a physical location of the customer's choosing. Customers can start small and build fast, with the base footprint including 18 racks and expanding to more than 450 racks. With Oracle Dedicated Region, customers gain access to OCI capabilities while retaining full control of their data and services to meet the highest security, regulatory, and data residency requirements. Enterprises and governments avoid the challenges of building a cloud by using Oracle Dedicated Region to install, manage, and support a cloud region.

“With Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer, we have access to full public cloud capabilities on-premises to meet Oman’s data residency and data privacy requirements. This in-country infrastructure capability allows us to run all our IT services on a multitenant cloud infrastructure with physical control of infrastructure and data to help meet our country’s regulatory, data residency, and latency requirements, and help boost the Sultanate’s digital economy.”

Bring all of Oracle’s public cloud services to your data center

Dedicated Region offers the exact same set of public cloud services available in the public regions of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Dedicated Region is also certified to run Oracle SaaS products, such as Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Financials, HCM, and SCM, offering a completely integrated cloud experience. With Dedicated Region, you can use OCI’s cloud services for lift-and-shift scenarios, to upgrade legacy applications, and more.

  • Easily modernize your legacy applications using any combination of Oracle’s more than 80 public cloud services.
  • Increase agility and innovation by accessing new cloud services and features on-premises as soon as Oracle makes them available in public cloud regions.
  • Lower your cost of running on-premises workloads with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s industry-leading price-performance and highest levels of security.
  • This is the only product to offer a fully integrated cloud experience on-premises for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS (including Oracle SaaS applications for ERP financials and HCM).

Public cloud economics

Dedicated Region inherits OCI’s unique pricing model, which is ideal for global companies that want to expand without pricing constraints. Customers can limit resource access, control budget, reduce underused resources, and forecast spending accurately with OCI’s built-in capabilities. Our lower product costs translate into 20% to 60% lower TCO across a range of workloads versus comparable on-premises infrastructure. Many OCI Dedicated Region services are metered on a per-second basis so you can scale resources when you need them.

  • Pay only for services you consume using the same predictable low pricing that Oracle offers in public cloud regions.
  • OCI preemptible and burstable instances bring users compute economic advantages. For interruptible workloads, Oracle preemptible instances cost 50% less than on-demand instances.
  • For scaled-down workloads that don't require a full core, Oracle provides burstable instances with baseline CPU utilization at multiple levels (12.5% and 50%).
  • Reduce your database administration costs by up to 80% and refocus resources on innovation with Oracle Autonomous Database on Cloud@Customer.
  • Consolidate database systems and applications on a highly available and secure cloud infrastructure to create operational efficiencies and reduce costs.

On-premises public cloud: meeting customer requirements better than the competition

Most customers find themselves in a tough situation when it comes to the cloud—they want the benefits of the public cloud, but they also need location flexibility.

AWS and Microsoft haven’t been able to meet customers’ needs. AWS Outposts and Microsoft Azure Stack

Hub bring a small subset of public cloud services into customers’ data centers. All workloads can’t be migrated as is because Outposts doesn’t let customers have full control of their VMware environments. Nonvirtualized workloads will not run on Outposts or Azure Stack Hub.

Without a public cloud of their own, HPE and Dell have been positioning their legacy hardware as having “cloudlike” functionality. However, their offerings are not public cloud extensions because they neither own nor operate a public cloud. They also depend on external software vendors to build out their mostly hardware portfolio.

Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer is precisely equivalent to Oracle’s public cloud, extended to your data centers. Customers can implement a broad set of workloads using a complete portfolio of modern IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS services. No other products come close to delivering such a broad set of cloud services on-premises.

“Finally, private cloud identical to public cloud…No one has previously delivered what I think is what customers really want.”

Lydia Leong Distinguished VP and Analyst, Gartner
Differentiation
  • Precisely equivalent to Oracle’s public cloud. Competitors have different architecture and offer only a subset of the cloud services available in their public cloud.
  • Migrate and run any workload as-is, including those that need bare metal or VMware. Competitors can’t run both virtualized and nonvirtualized workloads.
  • Customers retain all database features after migration. Competitors don’t support Oracle Database or Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Advanced Data Guard, and so on.
  • The full set—not a subset—of public cloud services is available on-premises. Competitors offer only a subset, which means customers are unable to implement a broad set of workloads to meet business requirements.
  • Reduce risk with end-to-end enterprise SLAs and single-vendor support. Competitors have not published SLAs and rely on external vendors for support.
  • Protect workloads with the same set of security features as the public cloud. Competitors can’t fully protect customers’ workloads because they only offer subsets of the security services available in their public cloud.

Public cloud security

Dedicated Region brings hardened physical and perimeter network security while enhancing the security of the platform, data, and applications with Oracle security controls and services. Dedicated Region follows the same defense-in-depth architecture and provides security controls at all layers of the stack.

  • Security-first design—clean hardware and firmware, strong tenant isolation, least privilege everywhere, and continuous monitoring.
  • Only Oracle certifies services for SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, 27017, and 27018, HIPAA, and PCI DSS compliance at no additional cost.
  • Default data encryption at rest and in transit, with customer-controlled keys stored in FIPS 140-2 Level 3–certified hardware.
  • Zero-downtime patching and OS management—access new security updates as Oracle makes them available in public cloud regions.
  • Security zone deployment—day one enforcement of prescriptive security policies and best practices.
  • Automated, always-on cloud security posture management and remediation.

Meet data residency and latency requirements

With Dedicated Region, you can meet your governance, regulatory compliance, and data privacy requirements while experiencing the benefits of the public cloud. Additionally, all application data remains on-premises and adheres to data governance requirements.

  • Dedicated Region meets the most-demanding data residency and data privacy requirements.
  • Use OCI organization management to create parent and child tenants and implement additional isolation controls to guard data and workloads.
  • In a self-contained dedicated region, all data, including API operations and metadata, remain local to the region.
  • Implement additional physical security controls to protect sensitive workloads and data.

Consistency in operations and development experience

Oracle Dedicated Region enables you to build a truly consistent development experience for all IaaS and PaaS workloads by using the exact same tools, APIs, and SLAs available in Oracle’s public cloud.

  • Rely on the exact same tools and APIs available in Oracle’s public cloud regions for a truly consistent development experience for on-premises workloads.
  • Use multiple dedicated regions to create high availability and business continuity solutions, either in-country or globally.
  • Complementary to Oracle’s expanding public cloud region footprint, Dedicated Region enables you to pick the right deployment model to match workload needs.
  • Oracle is responsible for all operations, including hardware support and capacity management, so you can focus on business priorities.
  • You can constantly monitor capacity usage and request a capacity increase or new compute shapes to accommodate changing business needs.
